Weapon of choice: Microsoft Intellimouse. (The ball-less mouse). Won't collect lint, works on all sorts of surfaces, great feel and reaction.

AND NO WHEEL

If the mouse you get dosen't have a Wheel then you dropped your money down a "mouse hole" Image

My bro has one of the MS balless mice. Very cool. He loves it. I got the good ol ball version (with wheel)

YOU CAN NEVER GO BACK

What's the wheel for? So I can 'roll' over you with your 1000 buttons? Or maybe you like to use it for shifting gears in another brilliant MS product "Monster Truck Madness" lol!!!! Image

Mouse = look

Mouse1 = fire
Mouse2 = jump
Mouse3 = run or grenade

w = up
a = left
d = right
x = down

space = crouch

s = special

0-9 = weapons

r = reload

etc, etc...

There's no wheel. While you fart with your little wheel trying to blow me up, I gib to into little pieces.

Seriously kiddies. The more you have think, the less time you have to act. If you add too much, it will take you longer to 'do' it when you really need it. My frags speak for themselves, and you can all trust the LOACH while he's standing over your twisted remains.

Simplicity is the essence of the expert gamer. Logitech rocks.

The wheel is for more then FPS so Frag all you want but when I surf it cant live without it. A must have, It don't sound like much but once you realize how good it is You can never go back. Even my laptop touchpad is set to emulate a wheel (scroll bar)

As for FPS the Wheel is doubly important.
1 it is the 3rd mouse button.
and
2 it shuffles the Weapons
I don't move a finger to change from my Flack Cannon to my Sniper rifle To frag your @ss on the other side of the map.
I dont look down to find 0 on the keyboard or move my hand to get there.

SO like i said IF IT DON'T GOT A WHEEL YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Mouse = Look

Button 1 = Primary Fire
Button 2 = Secondary Fire
Button 3 = Faine Death

Wheel = Change weapon

W =Forward
s =Back
a = strafe left
d = Strafe right

Space = Jump

Crouch = c (but only Sissys Crouch)

There are some differences on ball less mice, on some you have to have this special mouse pad. Watch out for these they suck! So the only decent ball less mouse is the MS Intellimouse Explorer. It uses a camera that takes 1500 pic/sec and can thereby determine the mouse location. I have this mouse and it works great. Also the refresh rate on a normal mouse is quite low. I think it’s 60 or 30 something like that, you can change this though. BUT with the intellimouse it’s 150 default.

MS Exlporer mouse? Ball-less mice? LOL! I had one and it was horrible. Trust me when I say this. I had 5 friends that had those cheesy ball-less mouse and I converted them to a Razer mouse. Nothing like it, and who ever says that it is no good is not a true gamer Image And keep that sucker on an Everglide pade or Ratzpad and you won't have to worry about lint.

Justin

Get one. Now!

Guess I'm a sucker. I've been converting ppl to the Intellimouse PRO. Wheel is much better and the ergonomics (euboniKX?sp) are very nice. No wheel = no weap chg. A mouse with no wheel sounds great but I've seen too many neg posts bout that.

I have the Intellimouse Explorer (optical) and I have to admit that when I first got it I wanted to throw it against a wall.. but now I realize how much better it is than a ball b/c of the fact that it IS more precise... even on an everglide or radpad it's still got a little bit of an edge...
And if you would like to test my theory ICQ:8506315 :-)

Everyone has seemed to forget the fact that the Intellimouse has the thumb buttons too! I have been out of the gaming loop for awhile but I think I remember being able to use the thumb buttons for the zoom look in quake 3, but I have forgotten how to do it so if anyone remembers please let me know! Right now I have the wheel switching weapons (I have wheeldwn = rocket launcher) that way when I am fragin people with the shotgun and I need a quick rocket I roll my middle finger down and BAM! I just hope Loach has enough time to streach his hand across the board to react...

Also I have had this mouse for about a year and have never cleaned it a.k.a ball mice, and it aims flawlessly (I have just started gaming again).

Ok later all, and dont forget to drop me a line on how to configure the thumbs for zoom view...

Hey!

I do fine with the mouse, keypad and my own scripts. Anyhow, I got bored of endless fragging with the Quake series. I liked Team Fortress for Q2, but TFC for Halflife is definately the kewlest there is.

Ok, so you have 2 finger buttons? and 1 wheel, plus some thumb buttons? How can you move the mouse? (_8^(|)

As I said before, simplicity is the essence of a good gamer.

Ahh, what's wrong with you people! Image Razer BoomSlang all the way! Yes, it has a ball, but I don't mind washing my hands before I use the computer and wiping the insides once a month for the accuracy and speed it delivers. I'd say the fastest mouse out that won't skip pixels(or not as many). I've tried a bunch of the other "top mice" out there now, including the new optical MS mice, and they're no contest against the BoomSlang.

Definetely worth a try, I've convinced 5 people now to get a Razer BoomSlang. I pre-ordered mine back in December and when I received my first edition Boomslang 2000 it was HEAVEN! I'll never go back, and it's a definete hit at LAN parties Image, although my friend's making me lend it to him for a Tournament next week Image I'll live, I hope.

Once again, as someone else posted the link above, www.razerzone.com

Enjoy!

i don't like the ergonomics of the razor. if they make a smaller version and position the side button better, i would probably like it. one thing for sure is that it's definitely a smooth mouse.

the mouse i use and the one i recommend is the three/four button logitech. there are different variations. i actually have the four button version. three on top and one on the side. this is nice for basic windows applications. for fps games i only use the three on top. i think the basic logitech three button mouse is pretty cheap now.

I concur somewhat with the ergonics of the Razer, but the manual clearly states that the mouse should be handled mostly by your fingertips and a small part of your palm on the back of the mouse. It shouldn't be operated with a whole palm on the mouse, and may cause some unnecessary clicking of the side mouse, which I admit, does happen sometimes. Still, though, some people tend to not like the actual feel and shape of it. I found it to fit my liking perfectly, and got used to the feel almost immediately. Same goes for the people I've recommended it too.

Anyway, I still think the BoomSlang is worth a try by anyone who likes a smooth and fast mouse. There's over a month money-back guarantee, including shipping and handling if you don't like it, but I'm pretty sure most people will Image

i had to stop reading..

all you need is a 2 button logitech marble mouse (mechanical or optical. I use mechanical myself. In fact the left button broke and I fixed it by putting paper and raising the button itself internally)

Here's the plan:
1.) Use mouse in left hand. Bind left button to fire, right to jump or crouch
2.) movement: i = up, j = left, k = down, l = right.
3.) jump can also be space or crouch vice versa. i turn space to jump when im on a grappling hook map of quake 3, so I can bind grapple to the left button and shooter while i grapple, or just use "-" as grapple ( +button5)
4.) pWn everyone til they say your botting b/c your config owns

trackball is alot more accurate, there's no arguing, just facts. put your sensitivity high and sit back

wtf loach?
your config should be w = forward, a = left, s = back, and d = right. having s in the middle is way too far for your fingers to reach :-/

Yep. Got the MX500 myself. Had a Boomslang. It was all hype. Although it was comfortable using just your fingertips.

Optical mouse is the way to go, but if you go laser?, remeber, history. Mouse pad or not, the laser reflects off a surface, fat women be quiet for a second.

Fibres loosen, the sway. One quick cure for this if you have a mouse pad, is to turn it 90 degrees. History.

If your like me and have been hooked on the optical mouse for a long time(no needing of cleaning wheels) is to paint thick, stucko, your mouse playing surface.
