Lost connections

Post by CableDude »

As I continue to stand by and do nothing about this this morning I come to find out that I have lost both my dial up and VPN connections.

Going to network connections-->Create New connection--> Connect to the network at my workplace....Both VPN and dial up are grayed out.

Is your account a member of the local admin group?
Is this a home computer or a domain member? If a domain member, any group policies being applied?

Ok.

Home PC
No Domain with the home PC
I am the local admin on the PC.

Going to fire it back up in a sec. I honestly don't know when I lost the connections.

I noticed that:

Remote Access Auto Connection Manager &
Remote Access Connection Manager

are set to automatic, yet they are not starting.

Error 1068 for RAACM

and

Error 126 for RACM

Those should be manual....very odd that they were set to automatic. What's the history of this computer? Any history of system restorations done? Any 3rd party software firewalls even installed on it? I'd start by back peddling through the dependencies.

Pretty clean. I'll set both to manual and see what happens. No third party firewalls.

Services set to manual. Do not see anything wrong in Dependencies. Still grayed out to create VPN and dialup. :(

Do I dare try sfc?

After setting to manual and giving a reboot....did they start, or did you try to manually start them and then create a connection?
The red warning for me...why were those services set to automatic? Means something monkeyed around..which makes me wonder what other services were toyed with....which leads to other dependencies being possible thrown off. What's telephony service doing?

After reboot they were set to manual, but did not start. I did not bother to start them then create the connection.

They wear set to automatic because some ******* (Me) decided that would work. :D

I think telephony is set to manual and is started. Not 100% sure as I did not turn the PC on today.

So the next big question would be...what happens if you take a second of time and try to start it? And if it fails to start...look at dependencies and see what else fails or what event viewer errors crop up.

Will give it a look. Did not see anything out of the order with regard to dependencies.
