Don't do the SP1 via Windows Update. Download & install manually. The install start to finish will take at least a half hour to an hour on modern quad systems and will take longer on older systems such as P4s.

Started the install on my P4 3.0 GHz/2 MB RAM system at 7:54 AM.
Finished install at xx:xx AM. (to be edited)

Dang, left for work without checking the time.

I just did a laptop at home, IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T60p. An early T2600 Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz, 4 gigs of RAM although due to a BIOS limitation on this Thinkpad only 3 gigs is presented to the OS. Started SP1 install at 0737, completed SP1 install and resulting reboot at 0808. So 31 minutes.

I have many computers that will need to be done, so I will need to do it through the Windows update method when I so choose. :)

If that's the case...I'd download the 32 'n 64 bit full installs...and save on a network share. Hit several computers at a time...will end up much faster instead of clogging your internet pipe.
Or just WSUS it.... :D
