PNY GeForce GTX 465 issue >_<
PNY GeForce GTX 465 issue >_<
I built a computer back in July, now things are starting to get weird with the display. I have a AMD Athlon II X4 635, BioStar A760L MOBO, 4 Gigs OCZ Performance Memory (2x 2gigs), PNY GeForce GTX 465, Windows 7 Home Premium x64, OCZ 700MXSP ModXStream Pro 700 Watt nVidia SLI Certifed 80PLUS Power Supply.
First I was using driver 258.96 and then it started showing purple/blue mixed squares all over the screen and gave me a message that stated NVidia Display Driver has stopped working and has been recovered. Then it would do it again and the screen would just turn off, couldn't do anything (alt + ctrl + del, etc.) so I hit the reset and got a message when I logged on that I had a BSOD. It would keep doing it at random points, playing music, or gaming, or watching a movie. I have unplugged the pc and reseated the memory and GPU and such, checked cables and cleaned anything that looked like it was dusty and what not.
So I uninstalled the 258.96 driver and used DriverSweeper to cleanup any additional leftovers and tried the driver 260.89 and I got the same issue with the purple/blue squares. It also produced me with a BSOD displaying STOP: 0x00000116 ***nvlddmkm.sys. Now when the pc boots where it usually says NVidia and the driver on post, they have like weird lines through some of the numbers and words (like if u were to erase part of the numbers or letters and see what is remaining, does it all the time, even when your in Windows.
I have proceeded to check the NVidia site and tried the newly released driver 260.99 to see if this resolved the matter and then it did that gay purple/blue square crap again, but now seems to have me trapped in a BSOD loop with the "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout has failed" STOP: 0x00000116 ***nvlddmkm.sys
Why doesnt Windows 7 x64 like the NVidia drivers >_<, and should I not use the 64bit drivers and attempt to use the 32bit drivers and see if that changes anything?

Any overclocking?
Have your ran memtest? http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
Can you tell me what the rails for your PSU are? +12v, +5v and +3.3v...you can check this in the bios
Was this your first build? Go back and make sure everything is properly seated in their slots, especially the video card...check to see if there is anything blocking it from going all the way in the slot like a capacitor.

No overclocking, it is all default. I have built several pcs, I have reseated the graphics card and ram and cables about 3 times, and made sure there was working fans and no dust blockage. I have run memtest and it hasnt produced any errors. As I saw didnt look like any capacitors were blocking it and none looked popped up.
Currently at work so I cant take a look at the bios on the pc atm, the PSU I have is http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/p ... wer_supply and I have the (x2) pci-e cables in the (x2) 8pin red slots and made sure they were pushed into a click on the PSU and Graphics card.
I'm wondering if it is a problem with the actual graphics card itself but I dont have another spare graphics card to swap in. Kinda wish I could show a screen shot of what the screen looks like but cant get it to bootup cause it keeps gettin stuck at that BSOD with the STOP: 0x00000116 ***nvlddmkm.sys.

I have read about updating your BIOS; also about disabling some features and checking BIOS settings to verify it is set to PCI-E and not just PCI; making sure that your OS is fully updated and finally about downloading this:
http://www.filefront.com/9282195/nvlddm ... roken.rar/
I have not used it nor do I personally know anyone that has, so use at your own risk...
I would definitely make sure that your OS is fully updated and take a cruise through BIOS to verify settings, and consider updating BIOS depending how old it is and what the newer versions fixed...

Optimized settings probably would not change what location your VGA is set to, and quite honestly I have seen many examples of where it was set wrong such as on-board video to AGP or PCI or PCIe or whatever others combos, yet it still worked fine...FFKefka77 wrote:Using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with latest updates available from Microsoft Update.

Although it definitely would not hurt to verify that it is set to the correct location...
I saw 2 responses that confirmed the download repaired the problem, I just can't personally say it will or that it is safe...
Let me dig into the error code a bit, brb...

Yea, I did a few searches recently and pulled up like 3 or 4 of them exact posts. I'm thinking it's a hardware fault, cause I have tried multiple drivers and chkdsk and mem test, and everything comes up clean.
When I boot the machine, in the very beginning, before it gets to BIOS screen to press Del to enter, where it should say "NVidia GeForce yada yada and the driver xxxxx" some of the words are missing or they have like black lines through them in certain spots and even sometimes they make a green smile/happy face.
Like the e in driver will be a face and if it does happen to boot into windows the desktop and everything will have abunch of black lines like it is failing to display complete images.
I have scanned for viruses/rootkits etc. with multiple programs and nothing is found.
I am going to take my bros GeForce 8400 and see if the problem persists, then I can see if it's the mobo or driver or card. Might just start an RMA from PNY about a card that costs $250-300 and doesn't work correctly after 3 months

The temps arent really that high, although the 1 time I used a video card stability test it got to the highest temp of 71C and didnt go any higher, it has pretty good airflow. I can let it run for hours and put my hand near the fans of CPU, GPU, PSU and they blow out cool air.
This is where I got the stability/stress test, http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/, and it only got that high when I enabled all the movement features
I was afraid to use the 32-bit drivers since everywhere I was looking complained that 32-bit drivers don't work on 64-bit Windows 7, but I guess everything is worth a try. I'm prolly gonna call PNY though just to see if I should RMA the card since it's only 3 months old.

My bad I just read this over and I was typing it at work. What happened is they sent me a refurb card and it worked for about 15-20 minutes and then it did the above. Still quite weird tho, not sure if the MOBO could be killing the cards, with my luck it isFFKefka77 wrote:Hmm, I sent my card to PNY for an RMA and they sent me a refurb and when I used the card yesterday it did the same purple/blue squares and kept crashing/recovering driver. Does anyone have an idea what I should check next, ran Prime95 and MemTest and they both checked out
