Question regarding microsoft word

Alrighty, so a few weeks ago I had a computer virus that really messed up my laptop, long story short I formatted.

For school I really need microsoft word, I was using microsoft word 97, and its all I really need, I cant find the installation cd, is there anyway to get it off the internet for free? Or does anyone know of a site, other the microsoft.com where I can download it?

Still copyrighted, not public domain, even one that old.

OpenOffice would be your best bet.

If you’re just looking for a word processor program, use open office. It’s free. I’ve used it before and it’s not bad at all. I know nothing about getting Word97.

Open Office allows you to save in a few different word formats, 97 being one of them I believe.

Yes, it saves in all older Word formats as well as export PDF.

Check your schools store, usually Microsoft products are offered to students for deep deep discounts. And since most everyone else will be working with 2003 or higher versions of Office, you won't run into compatibility issues if you're sharing. The Office Compability Pack, which allows Office 2000, Office XP, and Office 2003 users, to work with Office 2007 and newer file types (.DOCX for example) won't even work on Office 97. And no updates/service packs for Office 97 in a long time, so you're exposing yourself to malware through documents (school systems are usually infested with macroviruses)

OpenOffice is a good alternative. I'd strongly consider that or purchasing new version at the store, and not use Office 97 anymore.

Office 2007 and higher can save as PDF too! Free download add-on from Microsoft.

I believe saving as PDF is built-in, not a download.

It is on 2010, but not on 2007 ..unless on some of the latest "builds" you purchase that include service packs started having it bundled in.
