just installed windows 7 on c: drive, XP on E drive. How can I get Xp to boot?
so what I wanted to do was have a dual boot scenario with XP on E drive like I had been using then have win 7 on c drive as the new main OS. When I installed win 7 i told it to format and install on c. E as far as I can see is untouched except for now when I go into the BIOS and chooe the E drive to be the first drive to start, it gives me an OS error, so apprently soemthing is up with the boot.ini I guess? Anyone know how to edit it so that i can dual boot?

right well thats pretty much how it worked. I had this xp install on e for years, the c drive xp on as well but that wasnt the drive that booted up, i booted from e drive. So I just installed win 7 on c drive so yes the newer is the latest install.YeOldeStonecat wrote:For dual boots...I used to always install the older OS first, newer OS last.
In win 7 i right clicked computer/properties/startup and there was a tab to choose which OS to load first upon boot but all that is there is win 7.
any clues?
Also i cant eve egt online with the Win 7 install, it wnt detect my lan card I guess... im on my dads pc right now

Use easybcd software. It is free and very easy to use.velvta wrote:right well thats pretty much how it worked. ok well heres the deal... got that easybcd software and set it so that theres an entry for a windows xp on drive E, and chose to restart the system. Not only did it completely reset my bios settings to default for some reason, but when i choose the windows entry I made, the only thing that happens is that the pc reboots.
Ugh.
