Those are the remnants of a pier that used to stretch out at least a couple miles into the bay.

Very photographic area. I think you've seen a few of the shots I took on the coast this year. Beautiful coastline, some sandy and some rocky.

Humboldt Bay is huge, lots of marshes and sloughs and lagoons nearby as well.

To the east a bit, the redwood forests

Haven't had a chance to get in there with this camera yet but keep meaning to.
