Vista Wireless problem

Post by ctodd »

So if this is in the wrong forum.

Here is my problem, I'm working on my sister in-laws laptop which has vista on it. She told me she couldn't connect wireless, easy fix i thought. Here's the issue It tells me I'm connected to the router but don't pull back an IP. So I hard coated an ip, which I know should work. That didn't work either. I even reset the tcp/ip stack. So I took her wireless adapter with me to work today to test it, works fine. So I think this is a vista issue. Can somebody give me a little insight on this?

Thanks

A couple of things I'd try:
Latest drivers for the wireless card
Latest firmware on the router
Attempt connection to her wireless router with basic settings...no security, turn off any proprietary "turbo/108" modes or other ones...even try setting wireless to G only.
Try changing the wireless channel to 1 or 11
Once you can get a connection..then flip on WPA or higher security.

Will try a few of those Cat. I don't think its an issue with the router, my laptop connects fine. It could be a driver issue, its vista you know.
