Wireless routing through notebook

Post by Shagster »

My room has a dsl modem with one cat 5 but we have no router. Is there a way to get internet through the wired and then also use that notebook as a wireless router the other can connect through? I've been reading over the net but haven't been able to find instructions for this scenario.

Thanks.

Yes you can do this, but the the Wireless Access point will be a Adhoc network and not a Station mode network like regular WiFi hotspots. Of course, all your clients must support Ad Hoc networking.

There is a procedure for OS X and Linux too for an ICS Ad Hoc network.

But for $25 to $30 you can buy a TP-Link router. Tp Link routers are really great value and work exceptionally well.
