Help me figure out something for my dad’s birthday 08.08.08

Post by RoundEye »

Yep.

He was born August eight, 1948. He’s one of those stereotypical people that is damn near impossible to buy for and add that I’m broke at the time being doesn’t help matters. Anything that is nice, is impossible for me to buy. Just a “for instance”, he and my mom just got back from a well-earned Alaskan cruise. How in the world can I top that?

He has four or five horses, is the president of the local horse show association, and loves to travel.

That seems like a good idea.

Write him a song? I find things like that are always a good gift no matter how "good" the art is. I dunno. Good luck :)
You played the Song of Storms!

He is happy with that too, but I’d like to do a little something special for this birthday. I have a feeling that’s why they went on the cruise, he’s never been on a cruise before.

The stamp idea of MadDoc’s seems like a good idea too, I used to have 1000’s of stamps he had collected in his younger days.

How about a guide to local places to ride/camp he might not have been to before?

Buy him a horse ? :D

j/k

He loves to travel ...but travel on a cruise/airplane/camper ...

I would probably rent him motorhome for 1-2 weeks with some gas pass and let him go.

Does it sounds stupid ?

No it doesn't. But my current financial situation forbids that, especially with the price of gas and the mileage that a motorhome gets.

My dad is probably where I got my gypsy spirit from. We never moved much, but I have been swimming in both oceans off the coast of the US, and my dad was at the wheel driving.

I was going to post a link to that thread, but the SG search results for "bullsh|t" were too numerous

if you have a bunch of family pics of everybody (or just immediate family) on the PC, you could make a nice PP with some music he likes and burn it to a cd and give it to him. my wife made one for her dad for fathers day and he cried. i have known him most of my life and i have never seen him cry.

My daughter's birthday as well, and she is getting pony rides.

You might check Ebay for vintage horse photos (I have been giving old maps as gifts to my fellow history buffs). The NJ colonial coin has a horse's head, might be of interest.
