Do you lock your doors at night?

I never do, and was just curious how many other folks do/don't

After my car got broken into a few years back, I've been very conscious about locking the doors on my car and on my house not only at night, but whenever we go somewhere. The car doors get locked anytime we're away from it. No exceptions. The home gets locked up whenever we're away from it. No exceptions.

We've been fortunate to never have had a break-in into the home, and I certainly don't want to start now.

Doors and security system put on our House and Car at ALL times. We live in a very nice neighboorhood but why invite someone in? Also have a few firearms placed around the house in case of an emergency.

Perpare for the worst, hope for the best.

I always lock my doors but with glass so easy to break its almost point less so I keep my trusty shotgun near the bed as stated before.

If someone breaks in during the day when i'm not here then its only objects that can be replaced through insurance.

We always lock our doors regardless if we're home or not. A couple years ago, a guy was hold up in my uncles house with my cousins home alone to get ready for school. They didn't know a damn thing untill the cops came banging saying someone was in the house, the k9 found him about an hour or two later. Scariest part of it, he was hiding in the closet with a trapdoor between the girls rooms seperating him from the girls, one of the boys had left the door unlocked when he left for school

How about when you're out in your yard doing yardwork?

Known a few people now where my folks live who have gotten robbed while weeding or mowing in their back yards.

Well yeah, I would not expect other people to take off for a month and not lock their doors while they are gone, which I just did and have done so for longer periods of time than that. Even at my moms house growing up we normally did not though. Now she does but she is a woman living alone in her seventies so I can understand that.

That's my point. You live in a place where there's little reason to worry about it.

Hell the couple times I have called the cops they never found their way up here so the address isn't going to do that much good

Way too many break-ins in my neighborhood, if I didn't lock my doors I'd be an idiot.

Locked every night, cars too. .45 cal Ruger at bedside in case the oxycontin addicts come lookin for loot.

I don't know where the house key is if that's any indication of how I voted...car keys though are easy to find where I leave 'em on the dash lol

I never lock my doors, even when I go on vacation. Large german shepard keeps folks away. Also the area I live in is pretty laid back.

No one wants to mess with a german shephard. It's also nice to have some land between properties.

Here in Toronto, only over the last 10 years yes I do. If we're in and out during the day no, but after about 9pm always.

At 4am we had a woman beating on the door and screaming so horribly the hairs stood up on my neck. It sounded as though she was being murdered at my front door (I'll never forget it). Against the advice of the police I let her in. She had pissed herself and grabbed on to me in terror. A long story short.. according to the police she was a "frequent flyer". She was so high she thought she was being hunted down by a man with a gun.

The next day I looked at the front door and saw the dents from her rings from her pounding on the door. So yes, I lock the door.

*edit* I should add the advice from the police about NEVER opening the door when what I experinced happens came later. I let her in. It scared the ***** outta me so bad I figure I went instinctive (a female in extreme trauma). She was making a noise I've never heard a human make.
They say when a situation like this happens, don't open the door, but how can you not?

I didn't until probably 10-15 years ago. I grew up where people would be able to leave the house unlocked, could leave car keys in the ignition.

But as the neighborhood got ritzier....more and more home robberies happening....I started to lock it up more frequently if I was away from my house for longer periods of time.

When I got married...I always lock it up now. After seeing about several "home invasions" on the news.. I always lock it up. I'm a big guy with law enforcement training who will probably have near any intruder in trouble, I'm a wicked light sleeper....but the fact is..there's no guarantee...and the fact of something happening to my wife, and/or her kids...sickening feeling.

I lock the doors at night only. During the day its open even when I am at work. I also have a 105 pound Rottweiler and hopefully really soon a new rott pup to beef up security so to speak.

I lock my front door but the back door is mostly unlocked since my 130lb+ Husky/German Shepard lives there. It also helps that he looks a lot bigger with all the fur.
