Cool "cleaning" tool for active directory

Post by YeOldeStonecat »

I came across this today....while onsite on a network/server nightmare. Only "free" one I've come across....very new, requires .NET Framework 3.5 to run.

http://www.download.com/Active-Director ... 20300.html

What I needed today....is a way to prune out "stale" computer accounts. Dealing with a crashing server on a decent sized network..an old Win2K server running waaaay too much for a network this size. Under ADUC...Computers...there are like 200 entries for computers..when only 50x should be currently existing ones. Prior IT guys named the computers with oddball serial names..like "User-2134weds" or "ODD-7u3de73"...so it's a pain to figure out which computer belongs to who. And it appears they never 'removed" the computer account when replacing someones computer. So I needed a way to see when the computer objects were last active.

Not wanting to install some new free software on a server, and certainly not wanting to install .NET Framework 3.5 on a server...I took 1x workstation....installed 3.5, installed this tool, rebooted, logged in as domain admin...launched the program..and presto..a nice chart of computers, their SIDs, blah blah..and importantly..last login date. :D

Outstanding little utility! I found a bunch of accounts I didn't know were still floating around.
