Microsoft To Release XP SP3 Next Week

Post by Sava700 »

Now that Windows Vista service pack 1 has been released, all eyes have shifted to Microsoft's plans for Windows XP service pack 3, the final package of updates for the trusty OS. And, according to at least one source, Microsoft will roll out XP SP3 next Monday.
Source

According to the file description notes, Microsoft will release the final version of XP SP3 on March 24, but the 5503 test build passes all Windows Genuine Advantage checks and is able to download Windows updates that previous XP SP3 builds weren't able to, which suggests that it could, in fact, be the final RTM build.

Ugg... delayed AGAIN! :irate:
Microsoft has also delayed RTM for Windows XP Service Pack 3 to provide sufficient time to incorporate feedback from the beta testers. (In other words, they can't make their original deadline!)

hmm odd.. the only versions that should be showing up on WU is the latest RC and only if you applied a patch or bat file to have it show up.

Thats very odd.... but here is more info on the SP3 release:

The page states General Availability Date of XP SP3 is 31/03/2008 meaning it may well have RTM'd already but they have not made an official public announcement which should be due very soon!

So even though it's coming up on Microsoft's very own Windows Update you think it's not officially released? :wth:

yeah all the RC's are coming from Windowsupdate

This came out last night about the Service pack...
Update: Microsoft has also posted a Windows XP Service Pack 3 Overview whitepaper.
Microsoft has confirmed that the final version of Windows XP SP3 is still on target to be released the first half of calendar year 2008 but has refused to confirm an RTM date.
so as you can see its not released yet even leaked from talking to a few guys I know on the net that track this stuff...

The last date I heard it MIGHT be released was April 13th or 14th but even then that doesn't sound right as the 13th is on a sunday...the 14th now well ya just never know and not to mention thats just the RTM and not the pack itself.

Now that's odd. I must be having some kind of a brain freeze here because I didn't know Microsoft released RC's to Windows Updates. I only thought they did final versions?

Are you going to the Microsoft website through your browser or just launching IE and choosing WU? Reason I ask is I don't see a beta section in WU.

Start > Windows update, in order to see it you have to change the windows update options once you're there.

Those who change hardware frequently..install with caution. If you've been keeping up with your Microsoft updates..you won't get much from XP sp3...except 2x notable differences.
*Text in security options menu is updated with more detailed options....whoopie.
*More intense tracking of hardware changes in Windows activation (not fun for those who change hardware frequently..with the calling up of WPA each time)

PCWorld had a good article on it last month. Summed up with the above comments.

I have no idea why you haven't seen any performance increases out of the RC's.... a few of my desktops load twice as fast now with it along with everything a bit more responsive. Take in mind that I did load em after a fresh install and not right over whatever either. The biggest thing with this is of course the rollup of all the updates so I don't have to spend an hour+ to reload someones machine. Granted I have slipstreamed the updates to a few disks....but thats beside the point :)
