I'm back
This time I installed with a small variation on wiki. Set my pc security a little tighter. I've never worked with Linux but I want to set up a Linux machine in March dedicated to folding. I plan on building it myself. Done that before. Many sugestions are welcome even if its, your too new to Linux. OH and will always take recomendations on hardware but I do want to keep the price down.cpu q6600

Simply run adaware, spybot, ZoneAlarm, HijackThis, AVG, update windows daily, have a router, don't open e-mail, turn off action scripting, don't use P2P networks, don't violate EULAs, and wear a condom to get Windows secured.

It depends if you are using Windows XP which is faster than Windows Vista, with all Windows verisons OS versions are over bloated from the start.
Wait till April 20 for a price reduction, for better bang for the buck.
That is what I'm doing, and I hope to find a lower special discount price.
I'm disabled and have a limited fixed low income, so I try to find some great deals for my computers. The energy expense keeps going up to run my folding farm and I will not afford to buy or run too many more rigs to my farm.

Well I can comment on that now. This is my 2nd onboard graphics machine and the first was a via dog so I couldn't comment at the time.
This board has been folding from the day of my post, the 16th of December. I am using the onboard graphics and the machine is mostly just folding, it is the second system on my main monitor. So not much going on, some infrequent surfing when my other computer is busy.
I have 2 quads that just fold and use exactly the same O/S with very similar specs, 1st an Nvidia 650i Ultra chip sets mb, Q6600 oc'ed to 3.15 ghz, 2 gb DDR 800 ram and a GF 6600 video card, and this the onboard version of the P35 intel chipsets, a Q6600 oc'ed to 3.0ghz with 2gb of DDR 800 ram, both are folding on Unbutu Linux OS.
Right now both are folding two instances of WU 2653 (which I seem to pull about 90 percent of the time on both units), onboard - 1st instance 11m54s, 2nd 11m46s while the discrete video card system is folding at 11m50s and 11m40s a section.
Considering the oc advantage I would say the onboard system is the faster of the two.Firing Squad Home of the Hardcore Gamer

I just purchased a 40 GB PS3 and started it folding on Feb 4th late in the day. It finished it's first work unit shortly after midnight on the 5th and now going into the after noon of the 11th it is 81 % finished on it's 21st work unit. Which is 3 work units per day on average. Each work unit is worth 210 points up to 385 points although there are a couple worth 1,500 points, but I haven't caught either of them yet.
Anyway for $399 plus tax and shipping it came to $438. And boosted my folding average by around 1,000 points every day. Just look at my folding curve:

This was the best deal I could find on the Internet, for a new retail PlayStation 3 System Movie Pack (40GB HD, Spider-Man 3). Like I said in my earlier post, I will build a Quad rig, after the price drop of the Intel Q6600 CPU, at the end of April. With some over clocking the Quad can produce close to 2,000 PPD. So I can build a Quad rig cheaper than buying 2 40 GB PS 3, and can get the same or more PPD.
