Installed Win2KPro==>Games folder empty!

Post by Steve-O »

Hey guys, I'm a PC Repair instructor at a community college. I was working on developing an advanced class to follow up the basic class, which would involve things like formatting and reinstalling entire OSes numerous times, using different options each time. Anyway, my last install on the PC I was working on was Windows 2000 Professional (site licensed for 20 copies by the college). Today was the first day of the basic class, and when the guys had their first break, they went to play the games loaded by default on the OS and the one computer I reloaded Win2k so many times on had an EMPTY Games folder. Any idea why? I tried to drop in the OS CD and choose Add Windows Components, but Games weren't available to add. Any idea what's going on here? Thanks in advance...

Hey SAVA700, I'm still wiping tears from laughing so hard at that avatar. Isn't that the chic from Duke Nukem 3D??? Anyway, it was a clean install of Win2KPro after a format, so I sort of expected them to show up just like they were on all the other machines with the same OS. Keep in mind that all the other machines in the lab were "imaged" from a master OS CD, so really don't know how that install was done. Anyway, yes I was talking about the plain old vanilla games; solitaire, pinball, minesweeper, and freecell. Thanks for your reply and the laugh...

Hey Tony, I'll give the flow you suggested a try in the AM. Thanks to you both for a speedy reply...

OK Tony, here's the deal. I went to Control Panel/Add Remove/Windows Components/etc but there was no option to install games. Just thought I'd update...

Its possible it was a "School" copy made without them as most take the games off to keep students from playing them while working, thus all you did was make a image of that install and copy to the rest of the machines.

I do believe if you search google for each one of those games you can find them again but you will prob end up installing on each computer one at a time.

The games may be there but in a different dir.
Start > Run >
winmine = minesweeper
sol = solitaire

There may also be a system policy that prohibits the games.
