New Case and CPU Cooler.. What do you think?

Post by EvilAjax »

Well, I tried to OC my CPU today. Used TAT to monitor the temperatures. You will not believe the numbers I got. 52C Idle, and 71C with 100% workload on both sides. WTF. Stock fan sucked. So what I did was open my case, and put a "Cool Breeze" name brand fan (about 1 foot tall) and faced it to my mobo, and other hardware... the temp dropped dramatically. Now I get 38C idle, and 50 with workload. Woot!

it's a start. Also, my GPU was 85C! (8800 GTS) That's idle.. now it's 55C.. more reasonable.

Anyway, I'm going to get this case. (unless otherwise recommended to a better one at the same price range)

Nice IMO. My friend says this case has the perfect airflow. He doesn't have the plus version though (above).

And this CPU cooler.

I wonder how well the airflow is, big side fan like that looks liek it might mess up the flow.

Reviews seem good though.

your going to regret that idea... they will pull in massive amounts of dust without a filter on them and then that cuts airflow, I suggest a simple front and back 120mm for push and pull and just water cool the CPU cause with it water cooled the heat coming off it won't go around the mobo and everything else so in turn the heat in the whole case will go down. I'm using one of those zalman radiator towers to cool mine which is complete silent!

So with the massive side fan and a psu fan you'll have negative pressure in the case from the looks of it.

I think the front fan is nice, large fans are good. Thats a good clloer too, that and the scythe blow air to the side, so you can have it blowing towards the fan in the back of most cases to push the hot air out of the case and not down onto the mobo.

Those fans with the stuff behind/infront of them dont look to have the best air flow.

Maybe you can change your cooler to a Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX, have the side fan blowing in and the front and back fan blowing out.

If you look at the way the fan blades are shaped on that side fan in the picture you can see that they have it blowing into the case. :thumb:

I was thinking more on the lines about this cooler.
It's supposed to be one of th best.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835154001

Tuniq Tower.

I just don't know if it will fit on the first case I posted, which is the case I have my eyes set on.

These are the TT's dimensions.
Fan Dimensions document.write(neg_specification_newline('120 x 120 x 25mm'));120 x 120 x 25mm Heatsink Dimensions document.write(neg_specification_newline('131 x 108 x 153mm'));131 x 108 x 153mm
These are the first case's dimensions..
19.4'' x 8.1'' x 18.4'' (L x W x H)

The second case I posted is a full tower, so it will definitely fit there. It costs $20 more though... but I've heard it's worth it.

What do you guys think? :)

jesus cooler... if your going to go that high just water cool the CPU like I said before..just doing that will drop your case temps too cause it will pull the heat to a water source instead of pushing it out in the case.

I have that TT case, it's big, enough room, good airflow.

That asetek cooler is filled up with refrigerator gas, it's not so big and not so loud, and it's good for OCing.

Technically the VapoChill Micro™ CPU coolers are characterized by hermetically sealed gas/liquid chambers exploiting the most effective cooling principle available: phase change cooling.

LINK

Water cooling ...you have to remember your temperatures are always going to be ambient.

LINK

Extreme (phase) cooling with negative temperatures :

The VapoChill® cooling system (first version released 1997) is the most spectacular cooling system ever build with the intention of overclocking your CPU to extreme speeds.

The basic principle behind the VapoChill® cooling system is the utilization of a compressor (vapor compression cycle...) to remove the heat dissipated from your CPU. The use of the vapor compression cycle makes the heat removal 10 times more efficient as water cooling and 50 times more efficient than air cooling - and at SUB-ZERO temperatures.

Due to its superior performance and technology the VapoChill is beyond any doubt the tool that will bring you on top of the charts... By using the VapoChill technology to cool your Intel or AMD CPU's overclocks of 20-60% above standard performance is obtainable.

Link

I have to mention every component from ASETEK is made in Denmark, not in China or Taiwan, they have stickers on every product even on the Waterchill and Vapochill LS motherboards NOT MADE IN ASIA or NOT MADE IN CHINA/TAIWAN.
Their RMA (faulty units) were 1.8% in last 3 years.

Hope I did help.

The Zalman 9700 you had in your first post is pretty good. I recently installed one on a friends computer (Gigabyte DS3, E6400, some crappy ram) and with his CPU at 3.4GHz, it runs full load mid 40s. His case airflow blows too.

Thanks Sava, and you too Joel. :)

I think I will get the cooler first, then the case later.

Even though I care more about my video card's temperature.

I just ordered it from newegg. Comes in 3 days. :) (Tuniq tuner cooler)

I'll order a case in about a week since I'm still undecided.

Still taking suggestions though.

You can always get a water block for the vid card and tap off the feed to the CPU to the card....not only will that knock down on temps for the card but also the sound from the case :)

I honestly hear no sound whatsoever from my case.

The Tuniq Tower is installed and it is huge. It's so big I can put the cover on. So I'm ordering a case from newegg..

It's about half an inch sticking out of my 7 inch wide current case... what size should I get? The first one I posted is almost 9 inches wide.. the second one is about 8.1

and this one is 8.3inches

I just picked this up today. It does a very good job of cooling anything you put in it and its relatively quiet doing it. One thing that is not so great is the cabling options are non existent. I imagine if you take off the middle fan you could get more a little more room but there just isn't enough cracks and crevices. I like it though.

With cases using 120mm fans now its easier to have a quiet case and good cooling.
