I ve just got myself a cable connection.
If i plug cable from modem directly in the PC, everything works fine.
But theres many computers at my place and when i try to connect a router, from what we see by loggin in the router is that he doesnt get an IP adress and impossible to renew....
Router is 100% functionnal and even tried with 2
Help please
My router doesnt get his IP!

With "most" cable ISPs...the cable modem will "memorize" the MAC address of the first device connected to it...possibly your PC that works. To fix this...power off the cable modem for a while..it will forget, then plug in your router...power up router...power up modem....after modem synchs up...recycle power on router. WAN interface of router should get a valid public IP address from your ISP.
If you have a business account from the ISP..with a static IP address...often they will register your MAC address at their servers...to make a DHCP reservation for you. Although in this case..most likely you'd just get an IP address..but it would change now 'n then.
A small, dwindling handful of cable ISPs register your MAC address on their servers..in which case you can test this by "cloning the MAC" of your PC..in the routers web admin. This will make the router "fake" it's MAC address..with the MAC from your PC. You'll see that in the web admin of your router somewhere. I consider this a bandaid approach..if you find it to the case...I'd take the MAC of your router, call the ISPs support, give them the actual MAC of your router. Then you'll be squared away.
The last thing I can think of, and I've not come across any ISPs that still do this in a long long time...is "Host name"...where they only allow you on if you've given your device the "host name" they assign you. Most routers also support this in their web admin.

Thanx for the help.
I ve tried the first possibility but unfortunately it didnt work... now ill have to wait for a friend to try to clone the MAC address...
The modem has also a IP phone line plugged in it (if it changes anything) and what is weird is that he never seems to completely shut down since the phoneline light and power light continue to flash....is it because the "cable" cable is kinda locked on it ??(i mean that i cant pull it off)

If this is internet and phone(voip) you will have to call the provider and have them reset the modem, then connect the router to the modem.
