Kidding aside, there are people who are far more talented than he is as musicians. His skill is the flavor of rebellion today, great for him. Dr. Dre has his crew produced some of the best rhythm hooks for MM, that is why he is where is.

Eminem was very well known for his free styles before Dr. Dre came up to him. That is the reason Dre signed him up because he saw all the potential Eminem had to offer.

It is actually pretty funny because when Dre first met Eminem he didn't even know he was white. :D

i just feel teh story line is missing alot, kinda like the first half of a movie, it did keep my interest but i think that might have just been the cast, i feel they did a very good job.

if he was a poet or an artist expressing the same views he probably would be seen as an artistic genius by the group of people that are so against him. I dont like his music but i respect him as an artist. I think its great that someone can write their own lyrics and express them with such emotion. i wish more singers would do the same. Its deffienently more powerful then manufactured lyrics sung by manufactured bands nsync/backstreet/otown/whoever

i think some people are so blinded by the rap, the beat and the bad language to actually focus on the art form of it all. for me, just hearing him put words/sentences together where they rhyme and sound good together is pretty talented in itself. Like i said from the beginning i dont like his music, and i dont particularly like him either (specifically for some of his views) but i wish i could express what im feeling in such a way that it all blends together smoothly and rhyms. thats pretty damn impressive in my book. i think he deserves the oscar completely. i would much rather see him win in then someone like brittney.

ironically, i think people like brittney do something that many of you seem to dislike about eminem.. he is selling an image.. sure some kids will want to imitate that..

now look at just about every singer out there. now i wouldnt want a son who imitated eminem and his image but i also wouldnt want to have a daughter that imitated brittney and her image..

i think both can be damaging to society. yet one is more acceptable then the other in the eyes of some SGers.

and as for the gay thing.. again, i blame religion for breeding hatred.

There's a big myth behind eminem's rise...

His tape fell in the hands of an interscope A&R man, which got passed on to Jimmy Iovine, the label head.

He wanted a white rapper the way Colonel Tom wanted a white rock singer like Elvis. he thought EMinem had the basic talent and attitude, but he knew how big the "credibility" issue would be.

He gave the tape to Dr. Dre and convinced him to put Eminem out under aftermath (under the interscope umbrella) and "produce" him. While Dr.Dre is a big star again now, he was sliding into obscurity at the time. He had left Death Row, and he hadn't had a big hit since. SO he didn't have a lot of choice in the matter. (more recently, Iovine partnered Bubba Sparxxx up with Timbaland in a similar arrangement).

On the first album Dre only produced 2 songs, both of which were throwaways by his standards. All "My Name is" is a loop of an old record and a beat. But he lent his voice and appeared in the videos for that and guilty conscience. that was the important thing.

Some people close to Eminem that talk say that him and Dr.Dre aren't nearly as close as they're supposed to be. Dre goes all out for his B-list rappers like Xhibit, but he's yet to produce more than 2 or 3 songs on an eminem album. Eminem talked publicly about how dr.dre calls his music garbage (In a "He pushes me to improve" sort of way), but I've read he says it for real. On tour, the eminem entourage stays in a different hotel from Dre and his people.

So Dre's belief in eminem's talent is pretty iffy. But on the other hand, eminem should get credit for taking things as far as he has. "Lose Yourself", "Sing for the Moment", "Without Me", "Cleaning out My Closet"...dre didn't have anything to do with any of those hits. Eminem produced them himself.
