I'm new to GPS and not sure which brand/model to purchase. Here are my needs:
Basic automotive unit (don't need any marine or hiking features or any cutting edge extras);
Accurate turn-by-turn directions with voice prompts;
Powered by cigarette lighter or batteries (preferably rechargeable);
Color screen (that's easily read at night & during the day);
USA west coast coverage is all I need;
Removable storage (eg. SD cards) as opposed to hard drive/internal memory (because hard drive-based units seem to be more expensive & I don't need that much map content anyway);
Will be used in multiple cars (so it needs to be easily transferable)
I think Lefty is pretty good with one too.
Dont u use a GPS to Geocache? I think he does that a lot.

here is some pretty good info I found in the Langalist newsletter today
Sound like the GARMIN StreetPilot series would be a good fit. I am a hiker / boater so I am limited in automotive gps experience. Here are some sites with plenty of info for you to start with.
Unfortunately, I don't have a Palm. Guess I could purchase one and then the GPS kit, but I think in my case a true GPS unit/system would be best since I wouldn't utilize the Palm's other features. Is your dad pleased with this setup? How accurate is it? Which model does he use it with?

Came to a partial decision today. I'm gonna go with a Pocket PC + GPS. Figure it'll be about the same price (or even less) than an in car GPS, and this way I'll have some more flexibility. Anyway, I just ordered a Dell Axim X50 520 from Dell. Now I just have to decide on a GPS receiver and software.
Purchased a few weeks ago a Dell Axim X50 Mid (a day or two before the X51s came out) + Globalsat Bluetooth GPS receiver + Destinator PN GPS navigation software. Works great so far...
