My answer to "What is the worst thing in America"

Mental laziness. Not indifference, or apathy, but a cultivated laziness and desire to avoid critical thinking. How much easier it is to let O'Reilly or Franken do your thinking for you. Or Snoop Dogg. How much simpler to form beliefs on soundbites and five second images and music videos. How sweetly seductive that drug.

And how our media loves to give that to us. How we lap it all up and greedily ask for more. I don't want to know what motivates a man to kill his pregnant wife. I don't want to know his thoughts. I want to see the aerial footage as they pull her bloated body from the bay.. and is that the baby hanging out of her stomache? Eww! Let me capture that on TiVO and put it up on Ogrish.com. I don't want to think about how abortion might lower the crime rate, or how a child is more likely to die in your neighbors pool than by a firearm.. Think of The Children!

Keep it simple, keep it easy, and for gods sake, lets us not make ANY hard decisions about ANYTHING.

That, is the worst thing about America. We have no Benjamin Franklins. We have no Thomas Paines. We have no Jeffersons, or Lincolns.

The basis for my concern over abortion is that life is so precious that life and death decisions should not be in the hands of just anyone, nor in the hands of the government. They say that necessity is the mother of invention. However, we have not found it necessary to find a place for unwanted fetuses because of our present abortion-mill mentality and therefore, nothing will save them. While I do not believe in government interference, like sheep who have come to rely on the shepherd of unwanted pregnant women we follow them like the pied piper into the abortionists hands.

Abortion and capital punishment are those two paradoxes of the right and the left. The present right will cry strains of reducing government interference in personal lives, yet usurp a women's personal choice regarding her body. Those on the left seek justice, yet will not take that measure against a vicious murderer. I will not seek to change your opinion on the value of fetal life nor your perspective on abortionists. I will ask you to consider as future reference, look at the way ad execs pull the sheep into purchasing products that do them harm. Would you equate "abortionists" to those of big tobacco?

Why is meth such a problem? Is it because people die? Maybe, like fetuses, it is not the worse thing that can happen if their lifestyle causes so much destruction to themselves and society.

It is incorrect to compare the unborn to the living. Simply put, I would be saddened if my wife were to miscarry, I would be absolutely devastated if Olivia or Joshua where to die.

It is the manner in which meth takes over entire communities which makes it a problem. I am sorry to disagree, but preventing a birth cannot have similar impact. Understand, I sincerely believe that drugs are problem, but we as a nation do have other greater issues.

Bronco touched on it briefly. It is how we all blythly look at criminal behavior. How can we be a nation who are govern by laws, ignore transgressions? Why are illegal immigrants able to find work if it unpermitted to hire them? Why are politicians allowed to take bribes to alter policy? Why do we accept graft as being a part of doing business? Perhaps it is as other have said, apathy. It is the unwillingness of good people to step up. Maybe it is guilt in knowing that deep inside, if we were so empowered, would act unlawfully as well. Justification can do that to a person.

First off, it is the public's attention which is a problem. Ask yourself, how different is a "sound bite" from a talking head than a powerful quotation from a Thomas Paine? The similarity is in brevity and persuasiveness.

Actually, I deal with mostly low class mexicans and blacks at my job, even though its a grocery store. I made **** money, and these people drive up in nice cars, such as new Rams, Escalades, etc but they pay with food with FOOD STAMPS.

Okay heres my view...Ive gone and still go to schools that are predominantly black and are in or near the "ghetto". I see people walk into school with an $100 dollar pair of shoes, $50 pants, nice brand name winter coat and shirt, brand new team fitted hat and alot more bills in their wallet than I keep in mine. But somehow they cant afford their school supplies and need food stamps/welfare to carry on with life. You could say this is a problem with the welfare system, with the people, or with the general lazyness of the American people. Any way you see it, theres a problem there.
