beef with cingular

recently i tried to get my cell phone hooked up to my laptop as a bluetooth modem.

for those instances where i am obviously not near a hotspot or any kind of broadband connection. (and that is very very few and far between)

i was able to make the connection and use the phone as a modem.....only to have cingular immediatly disconnect any isp dial-up attemptseverytime.

soon as the handshake begins with the laptop and the isp.....it drops the call.

this would work with no problems if cingular didnt actively prevent the connection from connecting to an ISP through dial-up

well, Cingular is determined to screw customers and require that you pay 24.99 for a data package to make a DIAL-UP modem connection with you phone.

my question is this........

If phone companies are required to allow VoIP on their phone lines....then why isnt cingular required to NOT interfere with a dial-up modem connection with your phone?

this would come out of your plan minutes...hence they are getting paid for the connection time........what difference does it make if the analog sound traveling during the connection is the hiss of a modem connection or me calling anyone to say anything.

I am NOT looking for broadband speed......id only want to connect to get an email or small file from somewhere.

it is outrageous to ask for 24.99 to do something on your phone that shouldnt cost you anything additional.

anyone know of a provider that doesn't do this to their customers?

ill switch in a heartbeat.

i hope potential customers see this and think about it before signing with cingular.

I thought they ALL charged for data services.

I'm guessing that data uses more bandwidth than simple voice comm.

i didnt know if that was across the board or not.....but this is an outrage.....to charge what they charge for something that would mean nothing lost to them AT ALL.......this is an example of power abuse.

they are charging simply because they can.

they are a collective monopoly.

where else can we go get the service?

When you say "data package" do you mean hardware or something they do to yer service? I have Verizon and I had to buy a special cable for the phone to make it a BLAZING 14.4 analog modem, didn't have to do a thing to the service itself.

as it sits....my phone is totally able to act as a bluetooth connected modem..........my laptop can access and dial the cell phone and begin the handshake with the ISP.

dont need anything else at all.....its ready to go.

cingular has seen fit to disconnect the the call.

if they didnt interfere with it.......it would work.

they want an extra 24.99 a month to ALLOW this connection.

its an example of someone squeezing more out of someone simply because they CAN.

A few misspelled words, but not enough to qualify as “ranting”. Punctuation errors are also a good indicator of rage... as is spit on the monitor.
