I have cancer
Okay, you got a project now. It's yer #1 priority and we are in your corner.poptom wrote:Colorectal. This kind of pisses me because I'm not used to having anything wrong with me. prayers going up.
Ya know, I used to like the idea that I could come and go at SG whenever I dam well felt like it. But, I'll be here till you get yer clean bill of health. I don't want to miss the celebration. But, you owe me, cause now I'll have to put up with these SG types till you give us the all clear.

These guys are hell on the ego of a gorgeous, middle-aged chubby woman.

I can't add any more than what's already been stated in this thread other than the fact that you're in my prayers. Sounds like you've got a good start down the road combating this and we're all here for you if you need us. Get well soon!

Today, I had a buddy tell me he's got problems in the same area. I thought of you poptom and told him to get a thorough exam.
He looked at me kinda sideways at first and I explained to him what could happen. He's only 35 so there's probably nothing too bad, wrong with him. My uncle at 40 died of colorectal cancer. I told him early detection is key.
One thing about us guys is we never go get checked out, especially that region. In reality it can make all the difference to survival. I'm 31 and I know I need to go get checked because it's in the bloodline.
I also know you'll beat this poptom. Something tells me that.

Hey poptom
I don't know if you remember november 2003 I was diagnosed with Type B Lymphoma, inoperable but curable through extreme chemo and some mild radiation.
I was 26 at the time about to turn 27.
I am now 28 and I just had my 1 year CT yesterday, I am awaiting the results.
Just do what you have to do and keep focusing on when you get better.
The good news is usually colon cancer can be cured with just removing some of the colon and minor chemo + radiation.
Its hard sometimes but just remember, this is only temporary.
JD
PS** PM me if I can be of any assistance or you just need someone to sympathize with.

Sorrry to hear that one of life's challenges has come along and kicked you in the ass Tom.
I have an uncle who is 90 this year and has had this one for some time. The doctors just fix it after each regular checkup.
We expect them here next week travelling on a cruise boat to Darwin from Adelaide where they board a train called "The Ghan" for the trip back to Adelaide. He's never let it beat him and neither should you.
The medical people, prayer and the right attitude (that's the one you have) will have this beat in no time.

Sorry to hear about your situation
My grandmother died from it inpart bcz she did not get the check ups. My mother survived it from early detection. Its important that we get thease intrusive checkups and follow docs orders.
I Thought I would post a link to http://www.healthboards.com/boards/foru ... y.php?f=24
^ it can be a good place to get help and help others.

CT showed a golf ball size tumor right next to the prostate and it has latched onto a lymph node. It also showed some tiny specks in my lungs but they think that's harmless old scar tissue. They want to run a PET scan to see for sure. That will light up the cancer cells. From what I saw previously when they stuck the camera inside, this thing looks like a small bunch of white grapes.
The ultrasound hasn't been done yet, waiting for insurance approval but they're pretty sure I'm not pregnant.
Saw the oncologist for the first time and he thinks the surgeon should get in there first and cut the thing out and maybe follow up with chemo. These guys will be getting they're heads together to figure the best approach. Great! Now we have a committee. Nobody seems to be in much of a hurry (except me).

Stay positive!!!
Hi Poptom!
This is indeed a very stressful time for you...and lymph nodes are often involved with any form of cancer. I pray...this might help you..when I was diagnosed with breast cancer...I also had lymph nodes involved...and the prognosis by some was that I had less then two years to live. I had..and still do...a fighting attitude..as well as a positive one..as I hear from you..fear is of course very natural...and very normal!!..I was diagnosed as a stage 3 cancer...I beat it Baby...You can too!!..And you will with your attitude!!! That was near 19 years ago for me..and I am still here..Angel Blessings!!
Now the fun part?? Giggle!! The treatments increased the size!! Enjoy!!

Well, that is some welcome good news!
You see, it could always be worse! It could be raining AND you could be pregnant!

Keep the positive outlook. It helps more than I can say!

Let us know if we can help out in any way. We are here and will be waiting to hear your updates!
Update
Well, I've had another CT scan, a PET scan, and ultrasound, and I saw my surgeon today. He thinks it would be best to undergo radiation treatment prior to surgery but that will be a committee decision, I expect. Coincidently, he will be attending a cancer conference at UCLA tomorrow and he is going to present my case.
The good news is that it hasn't spread to any other organs and the spots on my lungs are not cancerous.
Oncologist next Wednesday. He's only in the office on Wednesdays.
After all the tests, I expect them now to DO SOMETHING.

Good new's.

Remember we are going on that bike ride together very soon. I should order my new Harley over here in the next week or so, and have it delivered in the states, to wait for me to pick it up.
So get the LBG's ready to ride with us.
You have all of us over here praying for you, and some more will probally join us on the ride.

Good report poptom! Now let them get in there and whip this critter. With most of the cards now showing...your team will know exactly how aggressively to fight and with what. The wait is maddening...I do know...but it should'nt be too long now!!! Hang in there!

Update
I started radiation and chemo today, five days a week for five weeks.
The radiation is done with a linear accelerator at UCLA. Only takes a few minutes. Last week they had me on a simulator where they tatooed some reference points on my back and set up the scanning program.
Chemo is at a nearby office that is set up to handle about a dozen patients at a time. Today I was the only one there. About 45 minutes. I get Fluorouracil and Leukovorin by injection. I have an IV taped to my arm so they won't have to stick me each day.
Both places have free parking for motorcycles so that's how I'll be doing this shuttle. Saves me 14 bucks a day.
