PC AnyWhere and DSL ?

Post by dworstell »

I am trying to use PC AnyWhere to remote control a server connected to the internet via DSL. I cannot ping the server or the DSL router. I can successfully ping outside addresses from the server and I can use PC AnyWhere to remote control my PC from the server, but I can't get anything to work going from the outside in. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Is there a firewall setup on that server?
I hate Verizon.

No firewall is set on the server. I don't know what the ISP has on the DSL link.

try using vnc, it's free and probably less bloated than pc anywhere, i don't remember the exact url, just search at google for vnc + download and you should get it on the first link

How will vnc or any other remote control program be able to connect to my server when I can't even ping it from outside the DSL router?

The router is a SpeedStream 5800.

just setup NAPT on the router to redir the pc anywhere port to the server behind the router that's running it, you can do that via the web interface in the advanced settings

Does the SpeedStream allow port forwarding? You have to forward ports 5631 and 5632 on the server you're trying to control.

I use them all and when I run into this type of problem I use totalrc when I don't have this problem then VNC
Totalrc is here http://www.totalrc.com
and VNC is here... http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html
then at least you won't be paying a arm and leg for upgrade..
Totalrc uses http protocol through IE on both sides..
Its just a suggestion...
