my observations about ireland

Post by Meggie »

* The toilet stalls are really private, here you can have like a half inch gap around the doors and stuff, there its like your own little private room.

* The men on average are way HOT

* The women on average are are probably 5 - 10lbs overweight, they are still really pretty, just not as thin as the average 18-25year old american.

* The stores close early, and EVERYONE goes out drinking at night, its way cool.

* Guiness tastes a whole lot better when you drinking it 10 minutes from where its brewed.

*Irish men have really small hands.

*there is hardly any diet drinks, skim milk, light and low calorie substitutes. There was only one place where i saw a light beer even offered. I saw only one tanning place, never saw a gym or a jenny craig type of place. but i didnt see many very overweight people either.

* newscasters and stuff dont have much of an irish accent.

* women play a lot stronger of a role over there, did you know ireland has had a woman president for the last like 20 years or something?

* the sinks are strange, they have like one faucet for cold water and one faucet for hot water, so if you want warm water, ur screwed.

*the toilets are strange, u have to like pump the handle to flush it.

* they have everything from texaco gas, to gap and old navy to pizza hut and subway over there. you can watch friends on tv, listen to brittney spears on the radio and see the same movies we can here.

* Men wear their pants a lot tighter over there, not like skin tight, just a little tighter, and man, they have some really nice butts!

* the majority of men are clean shaven, dress nice and take care of themselves.

* They dont worry about offending people all the time, or worry about getting sued about everything. they use bad language in songs that we beep out and say things in public that we wouldnt here.

* the signs are really polite, like they dont just say "bump or Step" but they say things like "mind the step"

* at least in dublin, i very rarely saw people talking on phones, more often, people were walking around listening to mp3 players. From what i heard from the locals, text messaging is really big over there.

* kids were actually outside running around without (GASP!) perental supervision! It was nice to see kids being kids rather then stuck inside playing video games.

* The guys smell really similar over there, like a good percentage wear the same fragrance.

* everyone seems really happy over there, i doubt there is even half of the anti depressant use as there is here.

* the men mostly hand out with the men and the women with the women, very rarely was there a mixed gender group.

* you can make bad words sound so much more polite by adding an E in ****e and an R in arse.

* everyone sings in bars.

* the security of our landmarks is so much more strict then theirs.

* they say "toilets" instead of restroom or bathroom. "excuse me where are your toilets?" is just a little too much like "hey joe, wheres the can?!" to me.

*they are really quiet, even in traffic people arent beeping their horns and yelling profranity. I noticed today walking through the mall how loud and annoying people are. there, people are just more calm, quiet and polite.

* the vast majority of buildings arent above 4 stories. i think there may be one or 2.

* its ok for men to wink at, dance with and hug other men, they arent gay. this rule especially applies when they are drunk

pictures soon to come ;)

Glad to hear you had a good trip--You say the Guiness tastes better, is it still like a liquid meal? I know that after a couple of those I feel like I ate a thanksgiving day dinner.... :D

Africa? That darn outsourcing :irate:

I was in Africa about 3 years ago...(Ivory Coast and in Ghana), not once did I see Guiness in any bar. They all seemed to have either an Apple Cider beer or some beer called 1895 (or something like that)....anyway, not a place I want to go back any time soon...

I don't know how much Guinness is actually sold in Africa, just that not long ago, their highest volume brewery was located there.

Meggies impressions of the taste being better over there, more to the fact that they know how to plumb their taps for it correctly over there, most bars in the US screw it up and connect it like they do regular peewater pilsner beers...so in at least 95% of the bars in the US, Guinness from the tap is often pretty crappy because it's done wrong. Plus it doesn't sell as fast, so it sits in the lines longer, acquiring a bitter taste.

With what you have in your first post you could write a really cool article on your observations in Ireland. Would be neat to read

What about the availability of technology? Are our geeks > theirs

id say as much technology as we have, they have. i would say our geeks are bigger just because we are almost bred on computers. there the kids do more kid stuff like play outside.

i saw computer ads in the paper but i didnt check out their specs.

we have more weird technology, like the automatic sinks and toilets that they dont have. and their cash registers are a lot more like ours from 10 years ago.

I was wondering about this. A good friend of mine is from Ireland.. when he and his wife throw a party, we -always- end up in separate rooms. Guys drinking beer around a dart board, womenz chatting in the living room. Doesn't happen that way here or at other friends' homes.

Sounds like you had fun, I need to get over there some time.
