formating hard drive

I have sp2 now but i may need to format. If i run windows update will it just download it again from the update center??

sure why not, i would download it now and burn to a CD that way your system is not as vunerable to internet attacks while you download it.

i have read about people getting hacked before they have had a chance to do the updates, i am talking like 5-10 minutes after they reformat, atleast turn on the windows firewall first thing while you download it.

You plug an unprotected computer into broadband without firewalls or anything...in barely a couple of minutes that rig is compromised.

Every singles clients computer I work on, or even build from scratch, unbuckle, new servers, etc...I built them behind a NAT router, run all windows updates, antivirus install, and lock downs, behind that router..before bringing them onsite.
