8.25% in NYC, though not everything is taxed, like certain clothing, shoes or other apparel. I used to have to go to Jersey to shop cuz they have no tax there, now I can shop in NYC without having to cross the GWB :)

Idaho is 5 percent.
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

NJ is 6% with no tax on clothes or food. Shoes and Candy are taxed though.
NJ has a 3% tax in depressed areas (Newark, Plainfield, Camden, Phillipsburg etc).

I'm in the military so I don't pay a dime in sales tax unless I shop off-base (Nebraska). I can get everything I need on base though. On top of that my state of residence is Nevada which has no state income tax. On top of that I usually fly into a tax exempt zone several months of the year. All it takes is one second in a tax exempt zone and I'm federal income tax exempt for the entire month.
