Post by BaLa »

Ok, I got the card today from FedEx.

plugged it all in....no go...It wont do a thing, computer PC will power up, but then it just sits there, works fine with the old card.

Hardware.

Abit KG7
XP1700
1x WD 160gig SE 1x Maxtor 7200rpm 40gig
Lite-On 52x24x52 CD-RW Lite-On 16X DVD
3 Com NIC
SB Live Value
Antec 400 Watt (SL400)
1x Corsair XMS PC2700 512mb

any ideas?
the 'extra' power connector is plugged in, at first I used the one that came with the card then I used another free connector in my system.

Did you remove all the drivers for the old card and load windows generic drivers for VGA before installing the new one?

Ok wasn't sure how far it the boot sequence it was going. If you don't get anything on the monitor I would suspect the vid card is bad. The vid card bios screen should be the first thing on the screen during the post.

didn't reset the BIOS, but it would seem unlikely I would have to do that on both comps? no..

just an idea, you didn't plug it into a fan connector on one of those antec powers supply fan only connectors did ya ?

i'm not sure if that card has a floppy connector or a 4 wire molex connection, was just wondering :)

Like I can read minds.

I'm not ordering from Newegg when I build my system. I'm reading too many horror stories like yours to deal with that kind of crap.

NEw egg is fantastic though .... Anytime you order online , you have to deal with possible faulty equpment and RMA's ...

Go to the local PC shop and you might get dead hardware ( unless they test it all whichcould cause more prolbems )

Only difference is , fast swapping ( Which I've REALLY come to appreciate lately )

ok now, got a new one sent to me..

my main PC

Abit KG7 will NOT work with this graphics card for nothing..
(for complete specs pls scroll up)
I got it to work in the second comp. with the AT7.

is there any way this graphics card might be incompatible with my motherboard
yeah I know but since it works in one of my comps and not the other..I don't know what else to think..

That's a fairly old mobo. It also only supports AGP 4X, but I don't think that should be a problem. Did you try switching the power supply, the Antec, to the rig with the KG7? Maybe the power supply for the KG7 can't handle the extra load from the Radeon.

Check with ATI and see if they have issues with that mobo. Many of the new vid cards demand too much from the mobo...and older mobo's often don't work well with them.

didn't think about switching out PSUs, but before I bought the GFX Card I posted a thread asking if my PSU would be able to handle it.

Everybody seemed to agree that it could..
it would also be quit the chore to do..

Just got the RMA# for my 9800Pro... How am I supposed to play EQ on a 9600XT until then!!!

Based on the fact that ATI quickly took the 9800Pro 256MB off the market and that they have re-released it with only DDR1 I have come to the conclusion that my problems stem from the DDR2 ram... heat issues maybe. :(
