Why are gas prices escalating so much, but, in our area at least, Diesel fuel prices have remained stable?
Both products come from crude which is supposedly regulated by world prices.
Gas price ????
That is exactly the answer though. They don't want the truckers shutting down the economy on top of their greedy little money making opportunities.fastchevy wrote:I would think because they don't want to piss off the trucking industry...remember last time we had a gas price spike the trucking industry held their own little 'strike' and stopped shipping......
That is any interesting question..
I just want to know how high it has to go before people plain can't afford it and stop buying it. If you ask me, they are gauging us to see what that level is.

That is part of my theory also.fastchevy wrote:I would think because they don't want to piss off the trucking industry...remember last time we had a gas price spike the trucking industry held their own little 'strike' and stopped shipping......

I still think the auto makers are also a big part of the equation.
On a new car the profit the big three make is very low, On a $20,000 dollar car I believe it is in the $1,000 dollar range. But on a large SUV or truck it is closer to 40% pure profit. This will do nothing but increase the number of people that are choosing large deisel powered SUV's and trucks over cars.
These large deisel vehicals are thirsty enuff to make the oil people happy also.
On the other side, the ecnomy is still to fragile to deal with an all out trucking disruption.
Where they can gouge us consummers till the cows come home and we will just keep on buying it.
And for those who are to picket and dispute with do not buy gas at this station today peeps.....Don't forget to fill up your tank the night before....

Speaking of gas prices why don't you all post what your local prices are. Diesel has actually jumped up there now here in Northern cali to around 2.50 last I saw. On base gas is 2.13 a gallon for regular unleaded and shell and chevron off base are charging 2.29 for regular unleaded.
