Someone tried to break into my office last night

Post by brembo »

Been rewiring the phone systems all day today, total loss of one day in the field.

Got into work, fired up the workstations, flipped on lights and was puttering about. Tried the 'net(DSL) and no love, cycled the modem and still nothing. Picked up the phone...dead. So I went downstairs and looked at the junction box to see if the main plug had popped out, and all looked good. Went outside to have a lookie-loo at the telephone interface box and what do I see?

Wires dangling, crimp plugs scattered about and NO TELEPHONE, NO FAX, NO DSL. Gee, hows a business to run like that? Call to Bellsouth to have a repair guy come and fix the wires that come off the pole. Shows up in a hurry, which was nice.

Then my part began, since all the labels were ripped off as well, I had to retrace, trial and error the whole damn network. Took me from 9:45 to 11:50 to get all three lines, fax and DSL up and running.

While I was doing this an employe discovered that a few screens were missing and some windows had been tampered with. So, it was an attempt to break in. Police called and a case number generated. I'm still kinda worried about how I wired up the alarm, gonna have to run some tests to see if I got it right.

Busiest time of the year and some a-hole decided that I needed to be at the office with thumb up butt rather than makin money out in the field. I'd LOVE to find this individual and plant a size 11 Scarpa in his colon. Man, that would make my day.

Hi brembo

Bummer. It's bad enough they try to get in but it's a real pain when they destroy things in doing so. Lets hope they catch the A Hole.

Sorry Brembo, I'll be more careful next time. Maybe you should just keep those naked pics of you and Maddoc at your house??

Pain in the behind eh? Your up and running is the good news. It doesn't look like someone tried to trash the place...

Hopefully the investigation will turn up something and possibly you may find something wrong with your security system. If so, this could have been a blessing.

I've only had a car broke into. If I could have proved who did it, I think I would have have taken matters into my own hands.

Wireless, baby!

Or by using a cell phone that is dedicated to the alarm system while being hooked up to a great standby power unit.

Tough break Brembo. Hope they find the a$$holes soon so that size 11 can be inserted.
Lucky you have the expertise to rerwire the comms. JCOS may have had to detour. ;)

I'm lookin at a 4 channel PCI card and some Sony Bullet cams to wire up 'round the office. Make the printer server double as the vid recorder at night. Think I'll be able to put the system together for ~600 bucks, and it'll be a decent one.

As others said, at least it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been.

Pain in the ass anyway, but still...

Hope all is well for you on the home front.
