Can't preview .htm files in Windows Explorer

Post by maro »

I'm running Windows XP Professional with SP1 installed.
In Windows Explorer, when I select some image or video file, I can see the preview of those selected files on the left side of the screen.
But for some strange reason, I cannot see the preview of local .htm, .html and .url files:

Any ideas why???

Because an html file is text. This is used by your http browser to draw the 'picture'.

The windows explorer 'preview' feature you are speaking of only works on image files.

Hmm, that's not true.
I was always able to see the preview of .htm files.
It just stopped working some time ago...

Hmm. I have not in XP nor in W2K. Maybe there is a setting somewhere that allows this, but that would require your OS to act as an httpd browser natively...that might run afoul the anti-competitve settlement MS has reached with the Justice Dept...

Check the MS knowledge base.
