The charges carry up to 20 years in prison

So how long do you think she will get?

She'll probably only get a couple of years, and walk early...

But still, I can't imagine her in with the general population...

She'll get shanked.

Her cell will be like Paulie's in "Goodfellas." Most of her day will be spent making sauces and thinly slicing garlic.

Just out of interest, may I ask who Martha is?

I'd do a google but:

1) I'm feeling lazy tonight and

2) Nobody has mentioned a second name. ;) :rotfl:

[edit]
Saw another post about her - Martha Stewart. :)

Martha Stewart.

She'll end up in some fancy white-collar prison with tennis courts with all the other corporate criminals, not a federal 'pound-me-in-the-a$s' prison

whatever she gets will be a slap on the wrist.
the judge will get a gavel made out of corn cobs and a lovely ornamental whatever with sprinkles made from fairy farts.

and Martha will be out just in time for her next season.

being that she was convicted in federal court, the judge has no leway on sentencing, the only thing the judge could do is to make her serve all four guilties concurently, that would give her a max of five years and with Federal sentence guidlines she has to do 80% of her time before being eligible for release.

with that much time she probably won't see a Fed camp, she'll go to a med. security joint.

i feel sory for the pain and suffering she is about to face, and the mess she has caused for her family.
but i am happy that she was caught and convicted, now as long as the gov doesn't stop there and keeps going after other privledge people who get favors like this.

it is about time we got tough on this scum of inside traders.

Sheesh....not that I have an opinion one way or the other on her guilt but let's get realistic......

Her crimes vs......ENRON....The west is still paying out the friggin nose for all the bs they pulled.......And Kenny Boy is still on the loose...

How about World Com? Good grief!

She's a pawn to take the heat for what's really going on.

My issue is that she was found guilty of lying about a charge that was dismissed for lack of evidence.

It's like.. we couldn't prove you murdered someone to the point of a jury deciding guilt or innocence... so we'll try you on saying you were not guilty.

Think about it for a second.

it's not just that she lied, heck eveyone has lied in their lifetime.

she lied to a gov. investigator when she had the right to keep silent. her lies misdirected the investigation. if she would have kept her trap shut she would be walking free.

you have the right to keep silent, you don't have the right to lie. :)

she maybe a pawn as you say but what she did was wrong and a crime, maybe this is a good start in the right direction.

and Keny Boy is going to go down, just give them some time ;)

i have no tolerance for these rich azzholes trying to make money by ripping off of the average working joe/jane american.

On the news they are claiming "it's all about the fact that she lied to the Gov't". What a ****in Joke.

Sure a jury convicted her, but part of the conviction was on the testimony of a noted liar....

What if she was innocent?

Still, this is drawing huge media attention to show that we are getting tough on White Collar Crime. lol

Man your getting to upset over this.....I'm not trying to yank your chain, my friend. :)

My first post......

Sheesh....not that I have an opinion one way or the other on her guilt but let's get realistic......

No I don't think I know more than what they heard....I haven't seen the paper evidence. It's just that I personally think it's a smokescreen.....Lot's of folk have done the same thing, including the current President and the last Secretary of the Treasury, Paul O'Neil.......She's a pawn..

I do think the media made Martha out to be a frigging HUGE monster......IMHO...a dang good smoke screen....

Her true crime was being the small fish that is too visable.

If she had been a bigger crook scamming on the level of millions or billions like Worldcom and Enron they would have swept her under the carpet.

But she's a celebrity and her business doesn't mean jack **** for the economy...she's the perfect sacrificial lamb to dupe the masses.

The U.S government knows it will never stop white collar crime. But better to keep the high end players here in the good 'ol US of A than have them pumping up someone else's economy.

Yea but Blisster the people in power didn't take any kind of bath on the Enron or worldcom scams..at least not enough to make any difference. Only the unwashed masses were effected, and frankly now that they have their sacrificial lamb in Martha the public attention will move to some other perceived threat.

Enron and Worldcom were huge disasters but I guarentee you there are many more disreputable companies out there pumping dollars into the US economy and slathering the people with clout in money. It's organized corruption.

Just wantet to add, don't think that Enron and Worldcom (although were they British based??) didn't attract alot of foreign money while they were cooking the books and looking good. That was money that helped fuel the economic bubble of the late 1990's and 2000.

That's what's been going through my head.

This all seems a "hey look over here" type thing from Enron and WC.
