Broadband! .. above the 4mbit barrier!
I thought I broke my caps, checked the website still the same caps and i was gettign 2000 more. Than I checked a day later and i realized they upped there caps.
My ISP raised the speeds to 9 Megabit down, 1 Megabit up. Not bad for $29.99 per month. Gotta love Canada for the technological leaps over the US
Btw, fresh install of Windows XP, no tweaking, I am at 95.4% of cap. I have spent the last three years of my life tweaking, nothing helped. XP is great on it's own.

You are exactly right with Windows 2000 & XP, the self tuning TCP/IP stack is designed to adapt itself as needed. This is why I had asked everyone to remove the TcpWindowSize & GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize from CableNut and let Windows adjust as needed. Also by setting Tcp1323Opts to 1 you allow for larger window sizes if needed.
The advantage of tweaking still exists, CableNut allows you to optimize your AFD buffers (and a few other values) which use memory to further optimize and stabilize your connection.
Back when there was only 98 & ME tweaking was an absolute must since those OSs weren't designed for broadband and the TCP/IP stack wasn't as near as advanced.
It is true. Look at any country compared to the US comparing the bandwith. Sweeden, Japan, Korea all have 100 Mbit ISP's for roughly at a price cheaper then average US DSL.
Its all the FCC's fault, with all the rules, regulations, and taxes....
That is not any sort of technological advancement. It is economical. OC-3's are available, but the price is so astronomical, that it is not viable for most of the population.
