Video Card Problem

Post by Paindriver »

I just switched power supplies from an antec350w to a antec400w. For some reason when i turn on my cpu no picture appeared on my monitor. I checked the connections a couple of times even went as far as reseating Video Card, RAM, and CPU.

The computer turns on and powers up...the fan on the graphics card spins..but no picture to the monitor. I put a different graphics card in (that i know works) and the same thing happens...no picture.

Any suggestions?
its the computer in my sig.

This might sound retarded.... I've made this mistake a few times..... there are two power connectors, the ATX one, and the one that goes in near the CPU...

I have forgotten to plug the one near the CPU in a few times, and I sit there wondering why I get no picture, until I double check the connections.

Just a thought.

hmm...I have two plugs close to my cpu on my Epox8k3a+....
one of them is the Main Power Connector which is plugged in and the other one is used to plug in cpu fan or other.

this may be a long shot, but reset your CMOS and see what happens....

If your're on an AMD system, you only have the stanard ATX plug, the Pentium 4's will have and extra plug.

edit: I can't type for **** today :D

all connections to the MoBo are on right? I mean, you did change the PSU, did you disconnect anything else when you pulled it out?

Kinda wondering if you'r board may not have taken a suge ... happened to my ASUS board for my PIII. Hope you didn't have the same misfortune ...

do you have lights on your MoBo? I know you said that when you hit the power button the fans kick on ... so, you are passing some sort of power through your MoBo.....

If you have any lights on your MoBo they should light up when the system has power ... And they should stay on a second or two after the power is completely turned off .... Try to disco the power cabel from the back while watching the board .... see if they lights turn off immediately or if they take a second or two ....

I know it is probably so remote that it isn't even funny but, I am hoping it is a dead battery.

If so, then you would only have a $3 part to replace... and you can pick it up at any pharmacy or general store ....

Just an idea .....

is power supply set for 115 on back of it?(itty bitty red switch)that would be for standard home socket usa-

is fan exhaust from power supply blowin air?this would confirm generaly it is working correctly.

is 24pin power connector on correct?it can be put on backwards.

does that mobo have a 4 pin connector?some motherboards,AMD are requiring both for more stable voltage to the board even tho it may still work ok with just the 24 pin one-

i dont mean to insult your abilities in any way, just covering the bases :) btw, nice avatar

Well i rechecked everything to no avail.

But i noticed when i powered up my cpu for the 2nd or 3rd time the new power supply i bought (antec400w), the bottom fan on it was not spinning....so i hope something electrical didn't burn out that fan and fry my cpu or mobo.

I don't know much about the PS so you guys let me know what ya think.

by the way i just got the ASUS A7N8X-E and AMD 2500+.

but i want to get this other rig working again :(

try to put the old power supply to see if it work
if it is so it's because of your power supply
but the old power supply not work that mean you burn you rig or something wrong with it
