free DVD player software

free DVD player software

i friend at work formated his PC but doesn't have the software CD to install whatever he used to play his DVD's with anymore and asked me what he could use for free, i never have used a DVD so i have no idea what to recommend.

i googled something called videolan and wondered if that will work ?

well a quick search found this, does WMP9 really work ?

VideoLan is great. Comes with it's own codecs too. I just found it recently looking for a video app to work in my boot cd.
I'm not very familiar with it yet, but I think it's what you're looking for.

VideoLan client may be better suited for your needs, or a combo of both. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

I play DVDs using RealPlayer, which I think comes with the decoder/software as it plays ok.

But my WMP9 won't play dvds and the WMP9 help says it doesnt come with decoder/software and you must use your own. I'm not sure how to do that..

Both are latest versions.

MPC plays dvds and vcds on top of mostly every video format out.

I had PowerDVD installed until I formatted too.

I have Divx latest version... wont that play DVD movies?
Look up.... you might learn something new. :)

it is not my PC so i don't know if he has divx installed.

logon efnet irc and download "free" software from dcc bots if u need something like windvd or powerdvd :cool:

PowerDVD, never had a problem with it...even takes screenshots
