Windows Update sucks...

Post by ReLL iZ HeLL »

Why do I have a whole bunch of XP (SP2) hotfixes? I dont have SP2, I have SP1... I noticed that when I uninstalled like 30 of them things, I gained some HD space and my IE browses much faster.

I think it shouldn't even install itself if I dont run SP2... thats just retarded. Stupid Q89329284392 BS.

Then it claimed that a whole bunch of proggies wouldnt work if I uninstalled it... yeah right... they work better now!

Why not install all the critical updates and XP-specific hotfixes? There's no reason not to.

I have no problem with the critical updates. What I have a problem with is the SP2 updates that installed itself into my system. If windows XP is so good, why doesn't it detect that I dont have SP2 installed so those updates wouldn't install themselves.

After uninstalling those "down"grades my system runs much more smooth. I get what you're saying though, choosing to install those updates 1 by 1... but that shouldn't be a issue with the technology today. It shouldn't suggest SP2 updates to my system when it's not SP2.

Ever since I installed those SP2 hotfixes (without my knowledge) windows explorer used to freeze when I used to open a folder, using up 100% of my resources, causing my system to crash.

I'll stick to SP1, these service pack changes aren't improving anything on my end. And until someone proves me otherwise, I wont upgrade to SP2. I'm even thinking about removing SP1... I don't see much of a difference than the regular build of XP pro.

Thanks for your responses. :)

Ok, now my WMP doesn't run. WTF....

It says error in .dll

I dont know if it was the uninstallation of the hotfixes, or some dsn unflush or whatever I did from tweakxp.com -- but it doesn't play any video files now! Nor does winamp...

Sounds like you already screwed something up. Might be from uninstalling/reinstalling alll the updates over and over. I've built 9 computers within the last year, ALL of them with all the updates, not a single problem.

You might need a complete format/reinstall.
