Did you try running your virus scanner? Plus if you have a emergency bootup disk for your virus program use it. Also try the website to your virus program. Sometime these sites have a program to remove the virus. Goodluck!

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... pinfi.html

Read that page carefully, and follow instructions.

What antivirus do you use? Most good ones will cleanse the effected files.

The very first app in the list on that page will remove the virus, and disinfect your scr, and exe files.

You will still have to manually edit the key in your registry as instructed at the Symantec site.

Stay off Kazaa!!!!

I've had that virus.

This is how you remove it: Reformat Windows.

Well, you could try and clean everything, but this virus is kind of dumb and always messes up while infecting a file so a lot of the files get corrupted and uncleanable. You'll have to delete those ones. Unfortunatly since it infects all the .exe files a lot of your programs will get messed up.

The virus itself isn't dangerous. Just makes some files larger. It's just really annoying.

Do as norm said also I would boot into safe mode scan one more time after you did the steps above to make sure it's out or you don't have another one.

WEll, guys, thanks alot though. I have never had any serious virus threat before even no matter what kind of dl I do with kazza. But it's my fault, I reghost an image and was lazy to install my AVG and ran without it for like a few weeks. Big mistake on my part. This time is the worse I ever had, though its not serious, it's just so freakin annoying so I deleted them all. It's just appz that I can redownload so I dont really lost anything, just the redownload time. Man, my antivirus is the first I will install from now on. Thanks all :p

I got another question, can a virus be a zip file and can a scanning detect this kind of zipped-virus file?

One more thing, very importaint. Be sure to delete that registry key, otherwhys the virus will still infect the .exe files you redownload.

hiya CAT5
I agree with what norm has suggested.
the virus must be removed and follow the directions to clean it.
but there is one more step that I do, just to be on the safe side..
I open up the run box.
I type 'cmd' <enter>
when the command prompt shows up.
I type 'sfc /scannow' <enter>
I insert my windows disk if it is required.

its really important step that many peeps forget to include when they rid a virus that has infected many files (some of which infected may be system files).

Peace,

UnitedWeStand.

p.s. this tip applies to W2k WXP W2K3.
Win9X-me, does not have system file checker.
get it up, get it in, get it out, and don't mess up my hair!
