Hi From Australia,
The other day a registry cleaning program I've been using expired and i was asked to go back to the site to get the latest upgrade.
However, I knew already that this upgrade was now longer going to be free, as the last time I downloaded it, they said it soon would be longer a freeware item.
The program is "Power tools" originally from the http://www.jv16.org site.
While in my opinion, and I'm by no means an expert, I found this to do all the things I wanted, I'm not really keen on paying for it, if someone out there is using a program (for XP Pro) that is as good and on the freeware list.
Can anyone help?
Also, if I've now got your attention, What are the essential files that I should back up on XP Pro and by what method do you suggest doing this? I'm an absolute novice with XP Pro and aren't aware of procedures with this software as yet.
Thanks in anticipation.

That is just the registry cleaner, only the full jv16 power tools program has the expiration problem.

I find RegSeeker 1.35 to be a better and more functional registry cleaner than RegScrubXP 3.25. It works great on both my 98SE and XP machines.

to addrss your back-up question....
Note this is another Novice's opinion...
If you royally screw things up regularly like I do,
I suggest partitioning your HD and burning a backup image
of your you HD partion with the OS on it to the new partition
schedule a task for that
I suggest buying Norton Ghost to do this
or you can use the Backup utility that comes with XP pro to back up regularly
either way you want a partion involved or if you have the money a seperate hard drive
