Windows - Delayed Write Failed

Post by BaLa »

I KEEP getting this msg...don't know what it is or where it comes from...

Image
I decided against typing it out..... :p
I was using notepad, print scrn, cut+paste
dunno how to make the img smaller...with notepad...oh well....it's readable....

progs running..

IE Browsers 2 or more
NFS HP2 (game)
Norton Corp
Watchcat
Yahoo Msngr
F@H Console
ICQ

it was happening earlier....before I was playing the game....I rebooted, that did not help..
it is very annoying esp. when playing NFS or any other game since it will minimize the game and go to desktop...

I doubt the system specs are relevant here...dunno though...

Sounds like your HDD might be going bad. Or it's time for a Format. More than likely though a HDD starting to go.
Respect it.

sorry, should have searched....thanks for the reply though...

now how do I find out what
\Device\HarddiskVolume3\$Mft
is?..

I ocasionally get a similar error msg, after I transfer files from my USB Smartmedia Reader to my HDD, after removal of the SM Card......I've not recently used the SM Reader though...

HDD is going...does make sense...I have 2 comps in my room...
This one (with 2HDDs) and another one..and there has been a clicking noise (not constant) sounds like the HDD is seeking

trying to figure out where it came from...not sure though...now that you say this...I guess it's coming from one of the 2 HDDs from this comp...

nevermind...I figured it out...

tried to access my mp3s on D:\
and it shows the dir. but wont let me access them..

D:\(insert dir. name here) is not accessible
Error Performing Inpage Operation

I also went to Computer Management (W2k) and the HDD is not listed...

I just lost ALL of my mp3s...
and a few movies
~roughly 33gigs...

and I was planning on transferring them over to my other comp. I was starting to use as a 'file server'

thanks again for your help ScottE :)

all good...

I ordered a WD 160gig SE
8meg cache
7200rpm

to replace my
Maxtor 40gig 5400rpm 2mb cache (I think)

at least it was not important data...or I would have been REALLY screwed...starting to get some of the stuff back but it's going to take FOREVER....

I'm having the same problem as well.
Description:
{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\LanmanRedirector. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

LanmanRedirector: is noted on m$ kb site and there is a reg fix, however my settings are already set to that! On both machines.
Let me explain: when I sent a file to comp 2 the transfer will start then stop for about 3sec, and then started again for about maybe 6-8sec and stop (so DUMeter says), then explorer will freeze the window where the file wis going to for about 30sec and then all of a sudden the file is where it was suppose to be but (it was an avi file) it would not play correctly. Both machines have all the same codecs installed. So, the files transfer for the most part, but somekind of code has been left out as far as avi files go.

Only I don't think it can be an HDD prob considering that I've had both my HD's for only 6 months, 80 & 120 gb Maxtors in mine and an 80 gig in hers which is only 3 months old, none are making any noise and none have suffered any performance drop. HDTach gave me the same results as a month ago.

Also both comps have 80 wire 40 pin cables.

So aside from buying new HDDs (no need) and reinstall (why? everything works just dandy except for this problem) is there anything out there I can do??

I paid $449.99 CDN for each XP Pro that I'm using here and they still won't freak'in talk to each other properly.

Maybe opensource is the way to go eh? hehe
If anyone has anything to help me out here I would really appreciate it.

Thank you
Andrew

Crazy!!
I fixed the problem. It was because the two network cards had different sized Transfer and Receive Buffers.
Comp1 was set to 50, comp2 was at 32.
So comp1 is now set to transfer 32 (comp2 will only go to 32 :( ) and comp1 Rec. is still 50 and comp2 is at 32. Get it?
You'll see this setting in the Advanced tab for the Nic cards in Device Manager.
I knew it wasn't the HDD cables or the HDDs.
That's the fix for my problem anyways.
Hope this will help others
