Argh I just had a big scare - when I booted up today, windows could not seee anything on my 2nd hard drive - it didn't even get the volume name. When I tried to examine it with partition magic, it said there was a partition table error.
But after I rebooted, everything seems fine again.
So was it just a blip?
Or should I take this as a warning, backup everything and buy a new hard drive?
What's the best way to check the health of the drive? (it's extensively used for read/writing large chuncks of data for video editing/encoding)

Used maxtor's diagnostic tool - simple and advanced test - passed with no errors.
It appears to be ok right now.
Question - how long before it completely dies? Hours? Days? Months? ...
impossible to say.
how long you wait until getting a new drive or whatever should be directly related to how important the data on that drive is.
