Yeah its not that fast but its as good as it gets for australia.....here are my results, i tried using tcp optimizer....i have cable nut as well i have it connected through my nic card!
TCP options string = 020405980103030201010402
MTU = 1472
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.
MSS = 1432
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.
Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 255552
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 63888
For optimum performance, consider changing RWIN to a multiple of MSS.
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
504064 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
252032 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126016 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63008 (MSS x 44)
bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10222.08 kbps (1277.76 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4088.832 kbps (511.104 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON
Time to live left = 57 hops
TTL value is ok.
Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF
Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON
IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00011110
Precedence (priority) = 110 (Internetwork Control)
Delay = 1 (low delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

Ya!:P
Oh....i thought u'd look at my specs.....lol well as i said i have nic card/winxp pro/ 512/128 ppoe
results.....

First you need to set your MTU properly, it should be 1480 if you are using XP's native PPPoE setup or 1492 if you are using your ISPs setup. Try the following:
Download the TCP Optimizer and try the following settings.
Settings tab:
select - DSL PPPoE
check - custom settings
network adapter selection - your NIC
check modify all adapters
maxmtu - 1492
TTL - 64
TCP Receive Window - 31944
MTU Discovery - yes
Black Hole Detect - no
Selective Acks - yes
Max Dup ACKs - 3
TCP 1323 Options - uncheck both boxes
Other Settings tab:
Max Connections per Server - 8
Max Connections per 1.0 Server - 10
Lan Browsing Speedup - optimized
Then select "Apply Changes" and reboot to take effect.
See it that corrects your MTU.
