Post by mmione »

It just hangs at the upload screen for 20 seconds, says connection failed and did not receive update. Help?

Copy/paste the text into notepad and save as url.ini
Place it in your x:\Program Files\Girsoft\AVG6 folder. (x=the drive your OS is installed. 'normally')

It will give you 3 choices in the drop down to select the server to go to for the update. http://www.grsoft.com is usually best.

[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=www.grisoft.com

[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/
Actual URL=3

Didn't work, I disabled Sygate and it started to work, it used to update perfectly.

You didn't mention earlier that you were using a firewall, and blocking AVG update. It wouldn't matter if you had a thousand servers to choose from. If you block the update with a firewall it won't be able to connect.

I suggest you check your sygate help files on how to properly configure it.

I have fully allowed it to access the internet, it updated fine last week but it just started recently.

Follow the logic...
When sygate is running, no updates.
When sygate is off, update works.

Either you don't understand your firewall, and how to configure it
or Sygate isn't working properly.

Solutions
Either configure it properly, or get rid of it.

THey had a big update today - they may have throttled their servers. I couldn't hit the update server - no firewall - this afternoon but got a 3+MB file just now - could be bad timing.
anything is possible - nothing is free
