Air Fryers

Post by Lurch »

My 5 year old Gourmia air fryer GAF575 5 qt AF quit the other day, and would not power on again.
I looked up info, and could not get it to power on again. I think I overcooked some plantain slices, and it overheated and damaged it.
So I bought a new NuWave Brio 4.5 qt air fryer on amazon, and I really like it.
Then I saw a listing for a NuWave Pro Plus Infra-Red Oven for $15, and bought that today.

This is the one I got for $15 today. It's huge, and I'm sure I could cook a whole chicken in it if I wanted to.
The guy wanted a dehydrator but got this and only used it a few times.

Was he trying to dehydrate plants in there? JK, looks like a steal for the price.

I wasn't sure if that was an air fryer or a dehydrator.

It's actually both. The temp range is from 100℉ to 350℉.
I think my other one goes from 100℉ to 400℉

It's quite a nice oven. The metal base sits on a plastic base, and moisture gets in there when you cook stuff.
They say you should always have the plastic base in place "to prevent electric shock".
If I roast veggies, and leave them in there after it shuts off and cooks, the clear shroud will fog up with moisture.
At first I thought it was odd that the air fried plantains seemed more moist than typical air fried plantains.
It's kind of a hassle to clean it up, and for that reason I think I prefer the air fryer.
I'd love to see this big oven roast some Cornish hen or chicken leg quarters.
You're supposed to flip it over at 1/2 way cooked.
With the kitchen lights off, you can see a red glow when the heat element comes on.

It definitely uses less electricity than the full sized oven.
Heats faster, and cooks faster.

I understand the hassle of cleaning it. We've bought so many things for our kitchen just to find out that after using them it takes 10 minutes of detailed cleaning. We bought a stand alone electric teapot/water heater. We started saving money almost immediately. Before that we were turning on the electric stove for 5+ minutes just to make some hot water. Now all I do is flip it on and about 3 minutes later (and a lot less electricity) I have boiling water.

I've seen a lot of those stand alone teapot/water heaters in the EU, they seem very handy if you drink tea especially. That said, we don't use half of the more complex kitchen gadgets we have collected over the years. We use the microwave for warming stuff/water. Sometimes wifey uses a rice cooker. The most used "gadgets" seem to be a toaster and an super automatic espresso machine.
