My father mentioned it was available on Netflix today, something about about Allied deception of the invasion of Sicily in WWII.
Rang a bell and I mentioned maybe it was the corpse dressed up as a British officer with fake papers detailing Sicily as only a diversion, with the real assault happening in Greece.
Said he'd never heard of it.
They kept the an unclaimed corpse cold for 3 months, faked papers and had a photo of his girlfriend, show tickets...and a chained briefcase with the fake invasion documents.
Dropped it off the Spanish shore hoping it would wash up and that the Spanish authorities would give the Nazis access to the documents, which they did.
Hitler himself pulled thousands of troops and supplies and ships out of Sicily prior to the invasion there, so the plan actually worked.
Anyways, good movie.
The funny part for me is my father is one of the world's leading historians on the Civil War, but I got him on this one.
Operation Mincemeat
Haven't seen the movie, never heard the story. I will watch it, thanks for the pointer.
