No I forgot to do it yesterday, so I have done it tonight.
My mal is 1000! That was done as per the guide.; tracert to 5 sites, whilst downloading setupaol6.exe. Then knock out the highest 1188, knock out the lowest 125, then average of other 3: 922 + 1078 + 1000 = 3000/3 = 1000

I just gave it another go earlier this evening, after I read mnosteels' explanation etc., and I thought logically it should work ok, so I went for it again.
No it did not work, I could hardly connect to my ISP; mail program failed! Anyway, I tried surfing and then did a speed test at adslguide.org ...

Ok mnosteele52, but this actually relates to the differences between what I have set my MTU to in both machines and what the analyser test page tells me it is.
I know I have posted other messages here in the past about my MTU setting, but 2 things have happened since then.

MTU setting problem
I have a win2k machine and a win98 machine both linked up to a router on a adsl connection.
When I go to the analyser test page here, it tells me that my MTU is 1460, and not 1500 which I have set it to.
This happens with both machines, and the MTU is 1500 on both machines, or am I looking in the ...

RE Win98se slow d/load speeds, help
OK mnosteel, I see what you mean, but do you know where I can get an older version of cablenut? I would like version 4.02.0016. This is the same version I have on my win2k system. Unfortunately I cannot find a copy of that version so I will have to d/load it again. I want this so that I can copy ...

Win98se, slow d/load speeds help
Sorry mnosteel, I am not sure what you mean there.
That link is about my slow speeds on my Win2k system using a frog modem. I am using the said mentioned SAR 715 router now for both win2k and win98se machines. My win2k machine is fine with d/load speeds still. I am happy, but not so with the win98se ...

Win98se slow d/load speeds, help
Hi,
I am running a Win98se system through a 4 hub ethernet router, SAR 715 (not a lynksys one).
My download speeds are no better than 31kb/sec, after installing cablenut and using the settings from Dr Tweak's page.
My MTU is set at 1472, using the cmtu tool as well to check, so why this test page ...

MTU in UK...clarification?
Hi,
as a recent user/requester of help on this site, I have frequently said that my MTU is set at 1430, used to be 1458.
I have also said that it has been advised by users on the pipex support NG.
Anyway, I copied the following from one of the messages on that NG:

Thanks for the link Andrzej.
I managed to get my RWIN value worked out using the formula given, and now have:
MTU 140
MSS1390
RWIN 22240
Which gives a download speed of between 55kB/sec and 59kB/sec, and an upload speed of 30kB/sec

Are you a pipex user?
When I run: ping -f -l packetsize http://www.pipex.com or net
the figure I get before seeing the DF set message is 1402, which makes the MTU 1430

speeds inconsistent...whats slown me down?
When I connect to the internet, I use a dialler prgram to coonect to my isp from a boot up. The dialler program just calls 0,30, which are the thingy values for UK. Sorry got a senior moment there.
Otherwise, I am connected 24/7 (except for a reboot)
