still not in effect here.. I just got installed today, and my test results are always 1730 dn and 150-170 up. I'm just outside sacramento ca which was supposed to be upgraded on the lst of the month.. sucks to be me I guess

did that, it shows nothing out of the ordinary in the registry.
I checked my other machine, (clean xp format) no email or anything on that one, and it has the same port listed as closed, but it still shows up in a scan instead of being invisible..

hmm, ran 3 different trojan scanners and they all came up with nothing. I did find something strange in msconfig tho.
there is a little box that was checked to start with windows, but there is no program name or path next to it like all the other programs I have run on startup.. any clues on what ...

Just ran the SG security scan, it said it scanned 125 ports, 124 of them were invisible, but 12345 is closed, but visible.

I have about 5 spyware programs and a linksys router plus za pro and a trojan remover program... Should I be concerned about this port and how do I go about closing it?

Today while surfing on the web I got a redirect to, you guessed it, a porn site..
well about 3 seconds after I closed the browser window that popped up zone alarm gives me a message saying msdos.exe is trying to access the internet....

I'm running winxp pro with zone alarm, spybot s&d, spywareguard ...

yeah the popups i described are kinda scary... i dont come across them often but every now and then a link will switch itself and redirect to a porn site.. with some kind of download that automatically starts itself..

well i did as you suggested and found two of the little bastards on my machine.. this install of xp is less than a week old!

one more question, I have two memory options available to me, a samsung pc2700 512 ddr, or crucial 512, both are 2.5 cas.
Which would be preferable? they cost about the same. I would think crucial with the lifetime warranty, do you guys agree?

I'm getting the asus nforce2 board deluxe, and got a ibm 80 gig hdd along with a maxtor 40gig . both are 7200 rpm.
I have a extra ata 133 card laying around, so I was thinking of using both drives on the 1 and 2 board ata ports
and putting the cdroms and zip drive on the ata card.

well there was no uninstall option for the two microsoft patches i downloaded
i reinstalled the newest 4 in 1 drivers and removed all the usb components from the device manager and rebooted..
it recognized everything reinstalled all the drivers it needed and started up ok with the ps2 mouse, i ...
