Uneven ping times at your modem in hop 1 of both tracerts. Power off the modem and relocate it to a spot a few feet away from ALL other electrical devices, including away from the router if it is a separate device. Also, make sure you do not coil up any signal or power cables.

Our home XP and Window's 7 rigs ...

Tested everyday since my last post and the only problem I see is around 2:30 in the afternoon there is some sort of interference and the speeds are very erratic? Any suggestions to find out what the interference might be? Is there a tool that picks up air waves ...

A friend of mine is having problems.

His modem is showing off line but he is on line.
He reformatted his computer with windows xp home. After doing so the computer kept rebooting. We removed some toolbars and stuff and its no longer rebooting. He's ran Kaspersky, houscall on line, spybot, crap ...

What would cause the text to change after mailing something that is copied and pasted from Word, (97, 2003, 2007) to Outlook Express?

1st repair, repaired somethings but we are attempting to repair again. Some things couldn't be repaired the 1st time. Thanks for all the replies. We'll see how he makes out.

Vista slow LAN file (data) transfer problem

Helping a friend with an issue.

All his PCs in his LAN are XP and they have no problems with file transfer but his HP Laptop with the Vista is really slow like 1kbs - 100kbs. He only has a problem when he transfers data from the laptop with vista to the other pc's running XP.

Not sure why this file is on our computer.
Kaspersky says it's a hidden install.
It's dated Nov/06.
Have read that it could be a problem.
It says it's write protected.
I've ran spybot and adaware and they say we're clean.
How can I find out what this is for?
Would like to get rid of it if it's not ...

Uninstalled and re-installed AVG. 1st time I did this I still got the errors. Had to clean AVG out of my registry then re-install.

Is AVG finding these files as a virus or just that they have changed and are a problem?

Also, if you set your son to a limited user account he will not be able to install any software. You can change his account status to admin when you want to install software then change it back.

Email seems to be working properly again, except it pops up and says it's scanning mail and I don't have my mail application open.

When I scan with AVG I still get errors for the following:
