zxc is correct that SX is multimode and LX is singlemode fiber, but the difference this makes is distance. SX (short haul) can reach up to 220 meters. LX (long haul) can reach up to 5000 meters.

Just wanted to chime in on whether or not 9 devices on a hub is too many....This is an *extremely* relative question that can't be answered w/out traffic analysis.

You don't need RIP....Your default gw is on a different subnet from your Ethernet IP address. Point the default gw out your physical interface (ie. ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 e1).

Ok, you have a very basic config. Everything looks correct and there are no filters/ACL's setup, so let's look at this systematically....

1. Open a DOS prompt and type "ipconfig /all". Note your DNS servers IP address. Can you ping them?
-If yes, this tells us the Cisco is correctly transporting IP ...

DHCP doesn't have anything to do w/ the problem....

You say the problem isn't with the browser b/c the browser works w/ another bridge and I understand that.
I say the problem isn't w/ the router b/c the router works w/ other apps (such as your DOS prompt).

If you can ping IP addresses from your pc then the router isn't the problem (also, the config looks fine). If you can ping http://www.yahoo.com (as an example) from a DOS prompt then your DNS server is working as well. This points to the browser.

Quick update....RFC 3118 has been approved. This defines DHCP authentication through an exchange of encrypted passwords btwn configured hosts and dhcp servers. This allows a dhcp server to authenticate users and users to authenticate the server.

I don't know that you can download it for free. I use a registered copy at work and haven't looked around the site for a trial version.

No that's not what I think you are saying. I think you are saying that by assigning multiple IP's to a single NIC you are able to improve throughput and/or lower latency. What I do not understand is why you think that multiple IP's equals improved performance.
