Yes,

Like stonecat said, uplink and downlink QoS is a must to assure all 30 users have a smooth internet experience. A PC (x86) linux distro firewall might be needed if the netgear begins to choke in heavy use. Untangled is not the only Distro with a AV filter. Many distros are extensible through ...

Hey,

VMware ESXi is a free server OS that lets you install multiple Operating Systems on the same machine and have all OS's run concurrently. So you can install Windows, Linux, FreeRadius, DD-WRT x86 and any other OS you want through VMWare onto the same physical machine and have the OS's all run ...

A lot of enterprise VPN routers work great and, but most have a fatal flaw - their WAN --> LAN and/or LAN --> WAN routing speeds are terrible and usually can only route about 25Mbps WAN --> LAN.

If this is suitable enough for you for a few years, consider a cheap Netgear FVS318G for $130. It can ...

This can easily be done by flashing with DD WRT firmware and then configuring the bridge or Repeater. The WNDR3300 supports DD WRT out of the box, but flash at your own risk. It is great because it is an 802.11n dual band router, but the 5Ghz range is very poor through walls.

Wireless Ethernet ...

Are the laptops 802.11g or just 802.11b. Also use WPA AES encryption only and not WEP or WPA TKIP encryption on the router otherwise the bandwidth will be reduced by 70%. AES only reduces bandwidth by 5-10% from an unencrypted channel.

Typical 802.11g rates under normal conditions are 15-22Mbps at ...

DD WRT is a Linux based firmware for routers. You'd want to use the Repeater (not Repeater Bridge) mode. It will essentially "repeat" the neighboring network and then your laptops connect to the Repeater. The WRT54GL is a good choice and costs around $60.

Compatible Routers

Any DSL modem with an ethernet port will work with it as the 625 supports PPoPE connections. This pretty much means all DSL modems will work.

Yes it will save them indefinitely.

It commits user configurable variables to non volatile ram (aka NVRAM), which is just like a usb flash drive or SD card.

You can always save the config script to a computer from the 615's Web administration.

It doesn't matter about your software firewall. you need to forward a listening port on your router's/gateway's firewall. Most routers have a feature called Upnp port forwarding, that will automatically open a port on the firewall if a client on the LAN requests it. Some routers now support NAT/PMP ...

Q 1) Does the cable go from LAN port to WAN or LAN port to LAN on the 615.
A 1) It goes LAN to LAN, but you should disable the DHCP server and SPI firewall on the 615 first and also set the 615's LAN IP to the same subnet as the 825.

So if the 825's LAN IP is 192.168.x.1 (where x is a number), set ...

Yes you can do this, but the the Wireless Access point will be a Adhoc network and not a Station mode network like regular WiFi hotspots. Of course, all your clients must support Ad Hoc networking.

I don't know if it is a problem with that Belkin router/modem, but some routers can not handle P2P connections well and some may have an L7 QoS filter to throttle P2P traffic.

In any case, can you use your netgear modem/router combo as the gateway and configure the belkin as a WAP - do this by ...

I have both HP 54G and WRT54GL with DD-WRT and a Dlink DIR 655 and yes, you can achieve the same guest zone with a VLAN partition in DD-WRT - also a VLAN per every client as well.

There are a few ways to do this in DD WRT or OpenWRT/X-WRT.

I think most people would recommend a DD-WRT router at least as a Gateway to manage the hotspot.

DD WRT firmware supports Chilispot and Sputnik Hotpot portal software out of the box as well as AnchorFree Ads (to get free money from ads from client browsers).
