I am using Windows ME on my Toshiba notebook. It comes with a DVD drive and with it Mediamatics DVD player.

My PowerDVD works fine with almost all dvd movies except a very few.

I don't think it is a region problem. I tried out a utility called SetupRegKill but that did not help.

Any suggestions ...

Unsupported file format on disc

Hi peeps! The above notice is what I get sometimes when I try to play a DVD movie disc. It doesn't happen often though.

Some of the movies I can't play using PowerDVD 4.0 XP are :

Under Siege
Practical Magic
The Sting

Any idea how I can fix the problem?

Partition your hard drive into at least two parts. Then you can clone your system drive (C:\) and store the clone on your 'D' Drive.

When you do a fresh format, everything on your C: Drive is wiped clean. You can then activate the clone on your D: Drive.

You will also need to store the Ghost.exe ...

Sorry about that!

I am sorry the software did not work for you, usualsuspect58 and Epyon! The reason why I recommended it is it has not let me down yet! Not even once! I have recovered lots of stuff which I have inadvertently deleted from my recycle bin.

You need to read the tutorial before using it! You need to ...

Rats, it is back to square one for me!

Just got a call from a sales person at the Compaq store that the model I wanted, Compaq Presario 1700 was no more available. There was a PC Fair here recently and it came loaded with features, and the price was good too!

So I am now looking around and I am thinking of buying a Dell Inspiron. The ...

Yes, YeOldeStonecat, I think I know what you mean! If the notebook PC comes with a bootable CD, then it will not be a problem for me to partition my hard disk, format my drives and install Windows ME, and then install those drivers and my modem. I don't even need to use my floppy drive.

But ...

Thanks for responding, Brent! I would like to partition my hard drive before formating it and installing my OS.

One thing I discovered a while back was the auto download would not work if I was using a proxy! I de-activated the proxy, and normal service was immediately resumed!

I have not tried IE6.0 but I did try IE5.5 quite a while back and did not like it one bit! It was slow and somewhat buggy.

To remove IE6.0 and install the version that you want , use IEradicator 6!

Well, I did it! I re-partitioned my drives.
No more separate partition for swap files!

E Drive - (games)

Also I tweaked some of my other settings, and it looks like the performance has picked up! http://server3004.freeyellow.com/pewa/anihappy.gif ...

onetrueday, I must agree with you! Like I said, there has not been any significant improvement in performance after I have created a separate partition for my swap files!

I think it is because the partition I have created,(E) is right at the end of the drive, meaning the swap files are going to be ...

uod2001, why don't you use (C)-primary Dos partition for your OS, and then for your extended Dos partition 2 logical drives, (D) and (E). (D) can then be for your data, and (E) for your swap files.

That's how mine is set up! (C)-2000MB, (D)-5750MB and (E)-250MB. Works like a gem for me!
