im using xp media center edition and would like to change the directory that the media center looks in for music and picture files. currently these files have to be in the my pictures or shared pictures folders....and the my music and shared music folders on the c: drive in order to show ...

turned out it was very simple. my router has to be told how many computers are connected to it. went in router configuration and there was a setting for number of dhcp users. stupid thing. who'd o' thunk? anyway after that was able to release/renew ip on new computer. all is well yippee!!

i appreciate your patience but still not quite there. i removed the hotfix and reinstalled opera/w java. installation appeared to go fine. no errors...said installation completed successfully but still java windows freeze once the applets begin to load. and if i look in "about opera" from the help ...

its kinda old im afraid but still does what i need it to. cept for opera that is lol. gateway p2 400 ...40gb hd...384 mb ram. winxp pro. ummm....anything else?

ok i started over by uninstalling opera and java web start. then downloaded and istalled opera w/java. this time at end of install an error pops up. this time titled IKernal.exe - Application error.
message reads "The instruction at 0x771c741a referenced memory at 0x00163638. The memory could not be ...

guess what? java not installed lol. anyway tried to install and get error from java webstart 1.0.1. exact message reads " Bad installation. Error invoking Java VM(SysExec)bin\javaw.exe"

just installed opera 7. love it but doesnt handle java and im certain i installed the java version. any ideas? thx

i just did a fresh install of winxp pro on my system. everything is fine except for running java applets. lots of lag, disconnections from server etc. at first i thought the prob was on the server end but happens in every site that uses java and doesnt let up...yahoo,pogo,msn ...probs ...

yes i applied the cablenut tweak for 2k but didnt change rwin. heres my settings.

im using the opera browser. i like it but having trouble getting plugins to work. at present the prob is with shockwave. when i visit a site that requires it i get message saying i need to install shockwave but its already installed. works ok on ie and netscape. thinking i need to do special configs ...

very strange. when i log in to my excite homepage i get my neighbors home page. however it contains some of my own custom content. all i can think is my isp has gotten our log in info mixed up. any other ideas? thx

i have used both and it does not seem to matter. i prefer windows logon.

speed seems great. this thing flies for an older machine. im impressed. will try what you said though. thx a bunch.

ok i got the adjuster (hope i did this right). selected my os and applied the settings. but now the analyzer page wont load to post my results. ugh!! i shoulda left it alone lol.

im unclear about my rwin setting. registry is set to 256960 but analyzer still reports 65535. i read about the fix but does it apply to win ME as well? and will it make a diff?
