turned out it was very simple. my router has to be told how many computers are connected to it. went in router configuration and there was a setting for number of dhcp users. stupid thing. who'd o' thunk? anyway after that was able to release/renew ip on new computer. all is well :) yippee!!

i appreciate your patience but still not quite there. i removed the hotfix and reinstalled opera/w java. installation appeared to go fine. no errors...said installation completed successfully but still java windows freeze once the applets begin to load. and if i look in "about opera" from the help ...

guess what? java not installed lol. anyway tried to install and get error from java webstart 1.0.1. exact message reads " Bad installation. Error invoking Java VM(SysExec)bin\javaw.exe"

i just did a fresh install of winxp pro on my system. everything is fine except for running java applets. lots of lag, disconnections from server etc. at first i thought the prob was on the server end but happens in every site that uses java and doesnt let up...yahoo,pogo,msn ...probs ...

yes i applied the cablenut tweak for 2k but didnt change rwin. heres my settings.



TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 49640

very strange. when i log in to my excite homepage i get my neighbors home page. however it contains some of my own custom content. all i can think is my isp has gotten our log in info mixed up. any other ideas? thx :)

ok i got the adjuster (hope i did this right). selected my os and applied the settings. but now the analyzer page wont load to post my results. ugh!! i shoulda left it alone lol.

im unclear about my rwin setting. registry is set to 256960 but analyzer still reports 65535. i read about the fix but does it apply to win ME as well? and will it make a diff?
